Prof. Robin T. - VP solo
I have been planning on doing a VP solo for a while now, but I just never seem to get around to it. I have always had a friend saying "Let's go fight the CFO!" or something, so I had just been putting it off trying to make sure I was ready when the opportunity arose. Well, last night I had opportunity. To cut down on the screenshots I put a bunch of shots into a single pic that I named "starting conditions." This is a picture of my gags with a bunch of things pasted on-top of it. As you can see, I have no friends online. Most of them went to bed early after the long weekend to get ready for work. I was alone with my doodle, and only needing to work on jury notices. My jury notice status, which has not changed significantly in weeks, was going to be my focus at first. But, at LBHQ (in river) there was only one lone toon by the DAs, and they were unresponsive to my hellos. It was now clear to me this was the time to solo something. I walked into the DA lobby considering a DA-D solo, but decided the reward was not worth the cost it would require. At this point I TPed to DG in Bouncytown (my home district) and turned in many of my sound gags for extra lure ones. Then off to sell-HQ I ran, excitement growing with each step. After taking screen shots of everything, Prof. loaded the elevator and offered my some useful advice (see pics). My thoughts now turned to the SOS toon.. should I shop around for a good one? I wasn't sure.. but Moe Zart appeared in the cage and that was good enough to keep me there.
Cogs:
Besides the first level 12, the first 4 cogs were level 1 CCs. I went with the strategy of keeping 3 CC1s, and am very happy with how it worked out. Cogs was a breeze, the CCs missed more than they hit and when they hit it was for around 2 points. With one CC left I was at 59/123 laff and decided to save the Flippys and unites and do some doodle training (see pics).
Skeles:
Facepuff (my doodle), got my laff full for skeles but I decided to go in without restocking gags. I had a pair of goggles left, and I didn't want to waste them. So, I lured the first group and then restocked with a Prof. Pete. Then I wedding caked them, which of course did not get the level 12. I lured again and finished off the 12 with a cream pie. After some LLKR, I couldn't keep up with my lures so I was hit by a couple 9s or 10s. At some point I presented and worked on 1 cog at a time. When this wore off I lured and used a geyser. There were more skeles than I expected, and I ended up having to fire another 12 and use a Flippy. No TU-unites were needed through all of skeles and cogs. I tried to use my doodle for a TU with one level 8 cog left. It worked alright, going from 50ish to 90ish.. but then I ran out of lures (and one missed) and I ended up going into skeles with 77 laff. This was intentional.. my unites were all 80+ so there was no reason to use them in the 70s. I also figured it was a waste of a Flippy at 77 laff.
Pies:
It started out easy. I wasn't too concerned about taking hits (that is one thing I would do different next time) and was just making sure to get stuns. The top ramp gave me a little trouble (kept throwing too low!) but I figured it out and moved him across the middle platform and lower ramp easily. I thought it would be easy once I got him on the flat at the bottom since I could then front-stun and pie him, but it proved to be a bit more difficult. I would miss some open doors from getting hit, and it seemed he would move just as far forward between stuns as I would knock him back. Eventually I used a TU unite. I probably did not have to use it, but was in the 20s and being carful was making me miss open doors and I wasn't making any progress for a good 10 minutes. Now at full laff, it was easy to finish.
Thoughts:
I wouldn't change anything I did in cogs, they went better than I planned. I'm not sure if there is much I could have done better in skeles. I did ask my doodle for a couple "jumps" during my presentation and I think that was a waste of a couple turns of lure. Organic throw was VERY useful as it allowed me to get level 11s in one (lured) hit. Using lure wisely is very important. It's probably a good idea to count turns lured too.
I don't think I'm as good at the pie round as I thought I was going in. I had trouble at the end... what should I do different? Is it maybe better to long/lob stun once you get him halfway across that bottom platform? I was using a method of standing a little ways away, and running toward him when targeted by gears. This way I was close if the front door were to open. It worked, it just went very slow since he didn't seem to open as often at the end.
It was a lot of fun but it took me over an hour. I don't plan on doing it again anytime soon, but it is nice to know I can do it if needed. I learned a lot, and hope some people that plan on soloing battles can learn something from my post. I plan on trying to solo the VP with my lower laff toon sometime, but I think I'll need more Daffys and Flippys for that. She is 64 laff now, but by the time she acquires enough SOS toons she might be a maxed 69 laff HW. Thanks for reading, and I have MANY more screenshots.. just ask if you would like to see anything.
