Question on close-up stunning technique, small tip on long-range

I've seen several toons like Ugly Duckling perform the stun of the VP from right in front of the treads, and read the technique in the guide. But whenever I try it, as soon as the door opens, the VP turns around and hits me with gears before I have any chance to get the meter to white and hurl a pie.

Any tips from experts in this technique in how to not get hit by either the gears that fly out of the door or the ones thrown by the VP?

As a small way of giving back to the CCG, something I've found helpful on long-range stunning. When stunning long range, especially from in front of the VP when he's down on the helipad, I've found it hard to see where I'm hitting because my toon is in the way of my view. I have found it useful to hit the tab key, and change my view to the "eyeballs" view instead of the "behind the head" view. Now I can see where my pie is hitting. Trying this may be obvious to many of you, but I didn't think of it for a while, so maybe somebody else was as oblivious.

I like the behind the head, but up (three tabs from "default" behind the head view). Same basic view, but my head doesn't get in my way LOL

No help on the upclose, maybe stepping forward so his gears go over your head? I have real trouble getting the bar white, I just don't seem to be quick enough to throw a "line drive". I wish I could, it's really the only part of the VP fight that I have not mastered.

Unlike the CFO where I can't stomp, can't get the helmet off, and if lagging, can't even hit him. LOL, How the heck did I get to be RB36?

(By the way, have I told you guys lately that YOU ROCK!!!!!!!)

I like the three tabs behind default view on the pie throw as well. I stun from the treads and yeah, he gets ya sometimes. I can't really offer any advice on how to avoid it. If your toon is small it does help some and some times I can manage to get back up and toss one in the cage before the door closes again. I have noticed you'll take a lot more hits the fewer toons there are near the VP. I think it's really a practice thing more than anything. If you want we can hook up in VP sometime and you can watch and see if there's something that will help you out. I pie from behind because you can creep along with him while he's jumping. I do that until there's no room left to stand behind and then I pie from the front. I stand by his left tread at a 45 since the toons throw with their right arms. Other than that I don't think there's much else I can offer in the way of advice except to keep plugging away at it. Good luck!

OK as someone who lives right behind the tread I can offer a little advice.

First is PRACTICE..... lol

I have a small toon ALL the time, and while this makes NO difference in whether or not you get hit with flying gears, it helps keep the trajectory lower for getting the pies in the box.

You really need to change your view as stated above, again it is done by hitting the tab button three times from the default view. This gives you a really nice long distance view of the VP and his head. This is needed to not get hit by the cog gears he throws.

The best place to stun is from behind him, behind the left side tread. You want to stay close to the tread and offset from the box, so it wont hit you when it opens. Now angle yourself so that the pies are hitting the box and keep throwing at it. I use the mouse click on the pie icon on top method. I let the bar get all the way full and then retract, and I let go when the bar goes to the far left. This is where the practice comes in also {The reason you want to stun from behind is that you will never get hit with the spewing gears that he throws ONLY out the front.

Now the trick to not getting hit from him directly is to get up right next to the tread (as close as you can without touching him), then hit the back arrow ONCE QUICKLY to move a step backwards. Now throw the pies and watch the VP's head. You will see that he turns and looks at you for about 3/4 second before he throws at you. Stop throwing and hit the forward arrow once to step closer to him and the gears that he throws will go OVER your head EVERY time {You will be angled toward the box and move in that direction, and that is fine, it still works)

The next step is to practice.... and practice and practice...... When you first start trying this, only do it from the back otherwise you will continue to get pounded by the flying gears and end up frustrated, I should know After you get the hang of it you can then go to the front and do it. But there should ALWAYS be at least one toon (pref. 2) in the back stunning as it doubles your chances of stunning him.

Good luck, and if I end up in a VP with you I can show you first hand....

Sure it can, I just find it easier to get the pie in the box as a small toon. I have also tried the small legs JFF and that works also, but doesn't always look flattering on some toons

my problem is no one ever knows how to stun it, then when i try to help and give them laff points im the one who dies, after he gets back up the ramp. im thinking of just saying forget it. its a waste of a LOT of time.

I meant to post this addendum last night but it was too late and I couldn't find the info but I am awake now

This is not my guide, I learned this information from Popcorn Cheezypuff, stunner extraordinaire. I finally found his guide...

It is a long thread, but you can start it at post 12. It is much more in depth with photo's.....

I used to be small all the time for this reason, but I've been regular size for awhile. If I setup exactly like KBB says, then it really makes no difference in my stunning whether I am small or regular. The key is being in exactly the right spot. Also, when I stun from behind, I use the default view. If you just keep an eye on the VP's body, you will see it turn towards you, and that gives you enough time to take the step forward just like KBB suggests. But then maybe I'm just trying to be different. I tend to get disoriented when I change my views with the tab.

Hee hee. I have a RB but I cant run the crane at all. My fingers just cant hold the jump key down for more than 2 or 3 seconds. Fortunately a stomper doesnt need to. Just wish I could crane when needed.

I'll have to try that angle in the VP. About the only times I use the wide views are for taking pictures or doodle training. Easier to see whose doing the tricks and who needs scratching. Although I guess in the VP case its the close up view from the top. I just rarely tinker with the other views but it sounds like a good idea for stunning.

Very helpful! I tried this in last night's run, and got 3 pies in successfully from right behind, one down in the ramp to the helipad that is the area that always seems to be the hardest time for me on VP runs. Not an expert yet, but at least now I've had some success so I know that I can do it.

I was trying it too, although I was staying in front as we pushed him back.

But it seems that to stun the vp, you have to get the pie directly in the center of the open doors. Because I have thrown pies that hit close to the top part of the open doors but it didn't stun him.

Oh well, I'll keep trying.
