Hi! MY 2 cents worth...
Tonights scheduled VP run (Jan 14, last run of the day), we were maybe the 2nd group in to the elevator, and lots of small suits, but the lowest laff was maybe only in the 60's, so nothing to worry about that way.
2 friends did secret chat the whole time.....
When our side finished first, for the first cog round, and we all went to watch the other side finish, they kept up their chat while standing right next to the other group. I wonder how it looked to the other group.
Now granted, we finished REALLY fast, but they could have stood a few feet away, and gotten in no one's way. But they chose to stand right on top of the group still fighting!
So I said 'Please use the speed chat', and 'I cant understand you'. They continued with their chat, so I said 'Please use the speed chat' just one more time.
Then we did the pie fight, fairly easy time with this, and everyone danced.
Instead of the usual 'you rock!', and clapping, etc, all we got was a view of those 2 friends secret chatting a LOT.
One of the most subdued and untogether groups ever, and I think mostly because those 2 made the others, and me, feel left out.
I think the rule, altho not a hard set rule, about no secret chatting, is not just because it can obscure your view, but also defeats the purpose of the feeling of a group helping everyone out.
I have always thought the occasional secret chat was entirely appropriate. I think most CCG people use it to help explain some detail or strategy to a new little friend. But then the big toon goes back to speedchat!
