Mint embarrassment

Yesterday, I decided to continue my dollar mint task. I double checked everything while I was waiting in front of the elevator, making sure I have my gags and laffs maxxed.

So I went into the dollar mint with 3 other toons. The first place we encounter was the moving platforms over the lava (that you have to time and jump over each of them while they are moving and reach the other side). They all jumped across in no time. I kept falling into the lava. The other toons kept saying "We can do this !". I retried many times to no avail. I kept timing incorrectly and falling into the lava. I barely made myself back to the starting point and have only "1" laff point left ! I kept saying "sorry" and we all TP back to the playground.

(Actually, the story above wasn't the worse part.)

Later on, my nine years old was on TT. He is a 59 laffer and went to the mint with two 98s and one 34. I happened to watch when he just started there. In the first set of cogs, they were hit badly and losing lots of laff points. So, I thought "OMG! they are not gonna make it." So, they finished this set of cogs and went on. Then, they were at that same "moving platforms lava place". My son reached the other side in less then 5 seconds and he was the first ! He kept saying- "That was easy !" At that time, I was stunned. So, I took a break for a few minutes because I feel like I'm going to have a heart attack watching my son not knowing the danger ahead. I kept thinking: "No, he is not going to make it." I returned after a few minutes (curiosity driven) and found that the 34 laffer has gone sad and they were almost at the end of the run. The three of them made it to the last set of cogs. One of the 98 laff toons went to battle the boss alone (needs bugs badly? I guess). By the time the other toon and my son arrived, they couldn't join the battle because the first toon already started. Unfortunately, that toon got sad too. So, only two toons left with 4 high level cogs. They killed two cogs first. The other toon needs a toon up and my son had no more toon up left. At that time, my heart was pounding. Fortunately, they killed one more cog and then my son kept using throw, getting hitted by cog and was tuned up again and again by the other toon. They made it !!! After that, my son said :"I'm the mint expert !"

I feel like I am Sylvester cat and my son is Sylvester Junior (you know what I mean if you watch Loony tunes).

The mint can be tough when you are first learning it! By the lava do you mean the room with the roundish moving things that look like bolts over the greenish ink? Or the flat platforms over the red lava?

If it's the flat platforms over red lava, you can keep running and just jump out at the end.

With the bolt-thingies, two things helped me: 1) play with your view. It helps if you have a view where you are looking down from above rather than straight on at your toon's back. I use the one right before the "straight at your toon's back". 2) humans need a running jump but toons don't. I walk to the very edge and jump. Also keep pressing the up arrow. Toons don't have momentum from a jump either.

I also recommend not taking the "get cogs in a xyz mint". Especially not dollar. Not many people go in the dollar mint, so it is harder to find random helpers. Especially now with everyone obsessed with bossbot. A good task is "x number of cogs in cog hq".

That sounds like my early trips to the mints! I don't change my view, but I take my time and don't rush. Jump straight onto the first platform when it is closest to the edge. Walk to the edge which comes closest to the next platform. Wait until they are nearly touching, jump (remember up arrow to move forward). Walk to edge again, turn if necessary to face the next platform. Wait until they are nearly touching, jump. Don't rush it. If they start moving apart before you jump, just wait -- they will come back together.

Good luck! I still take my time on all the jumps, but I don't have to leave anymore.

Thanks for the tips and I try them out next time. I thought the toon needs momentum to jump across. So, do you hit the control key first then release and then press and hold the up arrow? Or do you press both keys at the same time? I'm confused as to whether the key sequence are to press and hold or press and release. Also, I think I was really rushing yesterday, especially when everyone else was waiting at the other side.

The platform I referred to are those like a heavy duty hex bolts.

I wish I could get an easier task but this is the last one for the 2nd set toontask in DDL that will get me a 4 point laff boost.

Thanks. - AC

You can hold the Up arrow down and tap control and you will be running and jumping.

Its like in real life, If you hold down up arrow and let go to hit control, its like Running, then stopping, jumping, and then running.

If you hold the up arrow key the entire time and tap control, its like Running, Jumping, running

Lol

My <young> daughter had to "teach" me how to jump around the mint. I am an expert now - but still have a hard time fighting the CFO. She is only a 30+ laugher but when I finish battling the cogs - she comes in to fight the CFO. She is much better than me . . . for now!

Did you shop around before accepting that task. You don't have to accept any task, just because that is what is offered. You can refuse the task and go to the other clerks looking for better tasks. Or even go to a different headquarters. You will find different tasks available at each clerk. You can also go inside buildings on the streets and visit the clerks for tasks.

Well, I think I didn't shop around enough on this one. Usually I shop around. If I see something like "defeat 100 CFO's or 10,000 cogs" I won't take them. When I chose this task, I thought it's reasonable - only 6 dollar mints with a 4 laff boost. After knowing this is not a very easy task, I picked my other tasks that can be finished inside the cash HQ so as to consolidate them.

To added to the insult, my son "offers" to do the jump parts for me in the mint. He is arrogant now after finishing the mint in front of me.

Update: I had a coin mint run with 3 new friends from ATTA last night. I successfully jumped through those bolts. What I did was to walked to the edge and waited till it almost come nearest to me. Then hit jump key, released it and pressed up arrow immediately. For each subsequent jumps, I waited at least one cycle to find the sweet spot, positioned my toon and did the same as above.

I haven't tried changing the screen to top view yet but I will next time and see if this works better for me.

Thanks. - AC

Don't feel bad--I have the same problem. I can't jump very well either. My son usually pushes me out of the way and does the jumping for me. He says my jumping is painful to watch. LOL
