Whenever i always axidently (sp?) get in a cog battle in a mint or DA and other toons are somewhere else I always say "Hurry!" , "Help!", or "Sorry!" then use lure and pass untill they get to the battle.I woulden't use a level 7 gag because that means you wanted to kill the cogs and you want to make them feel sad.

silly question
I am new here, so this may be a silly question: what's a griefer? Is it just someone who isn't a team player?
Thanks for the EXCELLENT tips I've gleaned from this thread. Some attitudes I've seen in TT are starting to make more sense to me. Thanks! |

What a griefer is
Quote:
someone who makes other toons go sad someone who keep hopping off/ditching other toons on the elevator someone who makes you defeat a row of cogs on purpose when they aren't doing anything someone who uses sound at the last second on purpose when everyone else is using lure someone who uses lure at the last second on purpose when everyone else is using drop a Mr. Hollywood/Robber Baron/Bigwig/Big Cheese disguised toon blocking the timer in a Boss Battle Elevator someone who doesn't use any gags at all during battles someone who repeatedly says 'You Stink' 'I think this is too risky for you' or anything else that will offend or hurt other toon's feelings or anything else that will make you a nasty player. However, Captain Hector Megaphooey, I am not saying that you are a griefer. But just don't do these things otherwise you will be one. Last edited by The Monkey Man; 03-12-2008 at 03:27 PM. |

They covered it pretty well but 2 main things qualify as a griefer to me...
Anything that counters teamwork required in any battle... generally with intention of killing someone. Anyone that attempts to "steal" any HQ run, perfect example is the sellbot factory where toons can easily ditch a group and hurry to kill the Foreman thus making the factory run worthless for all but himself. Basically nasty evil people :-/ |

I agree that they are rude if you really said sorry, and they are not that smart too, because you could win this battle if you would use lure before your level 7 throw and another throw at the next turn, and then they would not get cogbucks at all. When this happens they should join the battle and try to waste the time until the invasion... If you say sorry then they should understand that it was just a mistake, but even if it was in purpose, they should join to stop you from winning the battle... Even if you will only kill one cog, they will lose cogbucks. Plus if they will join and you will agree to wait for invasion, they will see that it was a mistake, but they didn't give you a chance.

Thanks for taking the time to reply! It makes sense. There are lots of terminology and abbreviations on this site I don't know, and I appreciate the help.
I assume if there is a 26 laff-point toon (heavily armed with some pie slices and squirt guns) who wants to go on the Coin Mint elevator with us, it's not being a griefer to tell him, "I think this is too risky for you," and to not go with him. It might hurt his feelings, but what can I do? At 87 laff-points, I can take 3 friends with me in either the Coin or Dollar mint and feel pretty confident we can make it. But if one of us is a very low laff pointer and cannot contribute in the fight, it risks the whole group. We are not so tough that we can waltz through Mints with only 3 of us. If I'm wrong, tell me, and I'll change my evil ways! I try never to do those other things. Thanks again. |

squirt guns and fruit pies have no reason being in a mint lol. Helping little toons is often a subject for debate as they will often not be aware of their own limitations (especially if they are children). As the larger toon I see it as your responsibility, at least in part, to not put them in excessive danger just because they don't know better. It can be hard when they are obviously excited and want to try something and give sad faces when rejected with a "I think this is too risky for you" "you need more laff points" etc. You are basically being put in the position of toon parent. Help them grow and learn but only within everyones comfort levels. Of course there will always be some that need to learn the hard way... perhaps they could care less about going sad. But if it endangers everybody else in the process then thats just all bad.

If you said sorry they should have helped you. I do that ALLLLL the time but they ussualy say no problem and help me. You should work your lure up that way next time if you get stuck in that position you can "that'll learn ya" to them and beat the supervisor by yourself.

Or I mean they could help her and just lure and wait. Quote:

I agree... while it stinks to lose out on an invasion, if you don't bother to take the time to see who is going with you on a factory run its a flat out gamble. The arrogant toon gambled and lost... then was a sore loser to boot. He evidently expected everyone to know everything he knew and was angry when they didn't.
I wouldn't have spoiled his run with a lvl 7 (angry toons look for reasons to be angry... giving them a reason makes them feel justified) unless he himself tried to steal cogs and/or the run without the rest of the group, but thats just me. I prefer to put them in their place with clever speedchat that fits the moment (I am rarely outspeedchatted lol). That said I do see your point of view and applaud you taking care of a little toon. Well done

I'm a 114 laffer and this is the first time I ever heard of "griefers".
It does give me new perspective on a situation I was in in the bullion mint once though. I was running with 3 other toons who I never ran with before. Everyone was cool up to the supervisor, (healing, "you guys are great", "good teamwork") and we get to the supervisor and 2 of em stop and say let's catch the next one (I didn't realize at the time that that meant they were waiting for an invasion, I thought they were just goofing off). I'm saying "No", "I only have a few minutes", "I need to go". (I had to get off the computer). They kept saying wait. After 5 minutes of this, I said to heck with it and took on the cogs. They said "Your in the doghouse now!". Knowing I was on my own, I lured em in, and wedding caked 'em, and foghorned them. They kept telling me You Stink (hehe). I said "Whatever, I don't care" and took my laff points and cogbucks. Knowing now, what I didn't know then.. It probably would have went down exactly the same. I didn't have much of a choice. At least I understand whats up now though. PS. Unless you're in Nutty River, and sometimes Nutty Summit, you might as well just go for it. You could do 2 mints in the time it takes for an invasion to come in any other district. Oh well. |

wow! i'm surprised at how many posts this thread got.
sorry i haven't replied. since i'm new here. i couldn't find where i posted. wow i'm such a noob here. lol the thing that annoyed me the most after i went sad. i realized i had the Toons of the World Unite max toon-up phrase. i was just like OMG. you've got to be kidding.. and my lures just NEVER work. i'm only had the level 3 lure. it all went downhill when my wedding cake missed. i was going to use my geyser but i lost all my laff. and after that i was like, 'i could've used my SOS card.' because i had a lure card. ugh. when you're in danger, you just don't think of all the possibilities. okay this is such a long post. my toon is now a 105 laff. oh and i'm soundless. a lot of toons hate me for that. but oh well. i'm a number cruncher lvl7 and i just need to finish getting bossbot suit parts. the reason I walked into the cogs instead of running forward was because i changed the view. i put it to the view when you can see your toon's face. i did that to see which cogs are with the supervisor. so when they said "let's catch the next one." i was planning to run forward, but i was like "i'll use the opposite keys." so instead of running forward. i backed up. ugh idk how to explain it. it was the stupidest thing i have ever done. and they didn't help me cause they knew i wouldn't make it. Well, sorry to hear of your misfortune. I had misfortune of a different type this evening. Another TF toon and I needed bucks so we headed to the buillion in Nutty River. We were soon joined by two other toons (small chunky horse) and (orange dog).
Everything was going well untill the last 2-3 cog sets. Then all of a sudden dog starts saying "I need to go" and "I only have a few minutes". So we skip a set of cogs for him because it seemed like a nice thing to do. We get to the mint supervisor and my friend checks her book to see if an invasion is taking place. In the mean time, the other toons engage the Supervisor and immediately Ele and drop the Ship on them. They stole the mint from us! I am usually a pretty calm person, but that is just stupid, rude and immature. As it was close to 11:30pm PDT, I am pretty sure these were adults (chronologically at least). Makes you want to play solitare. ![]() Wouldn't it be nice if toons stole the Mint/Factory/DA/BBGolf that they could be banned for a week or so? Sorry, "Just thinking out loud" Corny D.
