Unhappy Lagging!!

I know there is a serious lag post below mine, but I needed to make my own to see replies.

When I play ToonTown, Im always getting frozen for at least like 5 minutes to 10 minutes trying to get to each place, in buildings, in Playgrounds etc. Sometimes it only takes like a minute. I have emailed ToonTown about it, they said its probably my video card and so I tried to update it with the link they gave me, but it said something like "File only works with Windows 2000" so I looked for a Windows ME file to update my video card and can not find one.

My OS system is ME (we can not afford to get a Windows XP upgrade)
My display driver is a NVIDIA GeForce2 MX (Sony)
And I know I have plenty of RAM since I JUST reformatted my computer (AGAIN) to try to see if it would help my performance on ToonTown.

Any ideas of what I could do to try to get the lag to stop? Thank you for your help!!

I think u may b confusing RAM with disk space. If you formatted your hard disk u may have plenty of disk space, but that's something different from how much random access memory (RAM) u may have in the machine.

The hard disk is like your filing cabinet and RAM is like your desk at school/work. You get stuff in and out of your filing cabinet to work on it. To work on it you put it on your desk. Like RAM, your desk holds just what you r working on right then (i.e. what programs are running at some particular moment). You can have many, many programs/files in your "filing cabinet" (hard disk) but you can only use so many at any one time because your "desk" is only so big (RAM).

Right click on "My Computer" and pick "Properties" It will list how much RAM (memory) u have down at bottom. Adding more RAM is always a good thing. Gives u a bigger "desk" with plenty of room to work on stuff :-)

More ram would help out your whole system run faster...I was quite shocked at the speed increase when I went from 128 to 384.

Have you vaccuumed out the inside of your machine lately? Sounds like it could be overheating too, this game is pretty cpu intensive so check out the cpu fan especially.

Also you should update to IE6 if you havent already, and make sure your Direct X and Flash are up to date too, just go redownload them.

*scratches head* I think that's all I can think of.

Oh! Make sure that there are no other programs running in the background, hit ctrl+alt+delete and end all programs except explorer and systray.

Interesting... how do I increase my RAM space? My computer isnt overheating, Ive already checked so thats a good thing *laughs*
I always have no programs running when I play toontown.

For some reason I think its the version of my OS... I tried updating DirectX, the display driver, etc. It didnt seem to help at all. Also, where do I get the correct update for my OS system?

Same problem

I have the same computer as you it seems.

I too am running Win ME, same ram and I think the same video card even. I have updated drivers, all the bug fixes while MS was supporting ME. I cannot afford to upgrade the ram currently and right now cant afford to update all the OTHER software for Xp.

I often have 30 seconds lag between clicking the speedchat and having the menu for it pop up. 3 or 4 minutes to get thru a tunnel. The same in building starts. As a result I'm often crashed off. It tells me 'minimum system requirements not met' and yet I have everything they suggest, I do not run extra software at the same time, the system resources are allocated properly.

I will get a new video card soon and see if it helps performance. The cable is not THAT flakey. Its frustrating because its been 3 months since I've had a session of toontown where I did not crash at least once. And before that I had rare crashes - a screen freeze every week or so or an occasional lag out.

I know next to nothing about computers, but I know we had EXACTLY the same problem - so we added a new Ram card and - WOW, what a difference! That is what you need. The minimum amount that Disney says you need will only make sure you can play at all, but to play fast and well, you need lots of Ram! We also went from dial-up to cable, but that just made it faster for downloading any new stuff and for pulling up the websites.

With the current Toontown version, it's safe to say that 512 meg is the MINIMUM to run the game for a REASONABLE amount of time without memory leak induced lag. After a few hours, you'll still notice it at times, like when buying gags with a character that has all gags.

I tested briefly with 2 gig of RAM, and after two days it did not seem to lag. There does seem to be a point where you can eliminate the leak problems.

When I was visiting my girlfriend, I used her computer to play toontown, it HARDLY ever lagged. She has Windows XP, and like 2001-2002 drivers etc. She is also on a modem.
I was really surprised by how my computer ran since my girlfriend and I have the exact same computers except the OS system. Also I use a DSL connection.

RAM comes in sticks of different sizes, not physically different sizes but inside they have different amounts of RAM. If you don't know anything about computers then get someone who does to have a look inside your machine. You will probably have 2 slots for RAM with a 128mb stick in one of them. That means you will able to buy another 128mb stick for the other slot so you'll have double as much in the time it takes to stick it in

I have the same video card as you, I also get lag but not all the time, and not as long as you do. Make sure you have the latest drivers for the card, and try disconnecting from the game every couple of hours to reset your computer's resources.

Go to Graphics Driver, Geforce and TNT2 then your OS. Might be a rather big download, mine was 8mb!

Ok I downloaded the graphics driver. It doesnt seem to do much good.. I DO sense the lag being a bit shorter, but it still lags pretty much, but not as long as it used to. Maybe a minute shorter! Any other updates I could download?

Thanks!!!!!!

*is thrilled how the lag is getting better*
