Sorry, but if you're using a Game Card, you are not permitted to make secret friends. When Disney talks about "paying customers", they're referring to people who buy the automatic monthly subscription via a credit card.

When someone pays for Toontown via subscription, it's reasonable to assume that the person is an adult, because credit cards are not generally issued to minors. Therefore, giving the account holder permission to use the potentially more dangerous functions because the risk is being taken by an adult, and the responsibility for giving a child access to those functions rests with that adult. With a gamecard, they can't verify age, and so the risk and responsibility lies with Disney. Something happens to just ONE kid because Disney let them have secret chat via a game card w/o an adult/guardian involved in the decision and you can kiss Toontown goodbye.

While you are absolutely correct, Greebo, there is one aspect of that 'policy' that *does not* make sense to me....
Yes, the gametime cards can be purchased by anyone with $10. Yes, a credit card subscription usually involves parental approval. BUT.... Disney offers a subscription payment via Check-by-phone... but still will not offer an alternative for age verification. Correct me if I'm wrong, but most people would notice money missing from their checking account, right? Very few kids under 14 or 15 would even have a clue how to gather and use all the information necessary to complete a Check-by-phone transaction, right? (based on my own children under the age of 14) Why can't they offer this payment option as an alternative to the credit card age verification? I just don't get it.. and when I ask Disney, I get the same canned response ... 'not at this time'.... This aspect, is 'stupid' ... IMO... If I am willing to pay a full year up front by this method, why can't I have the benefits of an 'official' citizen? My two cents... sorry... |
