It is possible that you lagged out (offline). It happened to me 2 nights ago. It's a very unusal occurance for me.

I saw everyone pick gags, it went to zero, and I was trying to talk to the others with no response back. I was the one who lagged out, and luckily it was on the last cog, so I came back in at full health and gags (and cogs counted!).

Do you remember if you changed gag during the 20 seconds ? There are a couple of folks out here who have problems with their timer running out when they change gags (press 'back') on the top floor of buildings. It is a bug that returned in the version that has now been released on the main servers. If it is that, I would like to hear from you as I am collecting a bug file from the people that have the problem. Anyone else who regularly times out after pressing back on a top floor please PM me.

I would like to know how many of you crashing toons have the music playing during these crashes? If so, try playing for a while with the music off (long enough for a crash interval to occur). If the problem goes away, include this information in your bug report to Disney.

It's possible that certain sound calls are causing a crash in DirectSound. I believe this is also related to the laggy gag-shop purchase (after playing for a few hours).

I could be way off-base, but this is what beta testing's all about

sigh...

once again we discuss this problem that they should have left fixed. This problem occurred from 3rd thru 5th update of LE and then disappeared after that... only to reappear in the latest update last week.
It does not have anything to do with sound. Nor is it your ISP crudding out... It also doesn't relate to moon cycles or alien takeover. As far as Kid Bugs and I could determine (from about 2 weeks of piddling about trying to stabilize my system the first time this bug started showing it's ugly little face) is that Disney changed (or rather included) some rather nasty SSL protocols to apparently "verify" users weren't hacking their toons. Don't ask me how this would work, because I don't know. I do know however that everyone I've talked to having this problem are using a OS other than winxp or win 2000.
I am using win98se and was on win98a the first time I ran into this problem. I have updated to the current versions from microsoft (even did specific searches for SSL updates) but to no avail.
It seems that until Disney gets off it's rump and makes this bug numero uno priority I and many others will suffer a somewhat difficult life in toontown.
Ok now here's the good news....
When this bug occurs it is only your Download pipe that is affected.
What I mean by this is if you type (or use the toontalker) others in your party will be able to see what you say. (so you can explain why suddenly at the top of the lvl 5 sell building you are not choosing any gags and are allowing every joining cog to waltz right into battle without passing).
Also If you wait until either
A) the floor is over and your toon is timed out of the elevator countdown and sent back to the PG
or
B) the last cog is defeated (if you are lucky enough for this to happen on top floor) and your fellow toons (plus your crippled one) finish their dance
BEFORE you log out (alt F4) then you WILL NOT BE SAD and YOU WILL GET CREDIT for all cogs defeated!
The best advice I can give is once you realize it's happening ask someone in your party to join you in the IRC channel (hit ALT TAB to minimize toontown) and join him/her there so they can tell you when the battle is over and it is safe to shut down TT.

Oh and of course SPAM THE HECK OUTTA DISNEY ABOUT THIS CRASH EVERYTIME IT HAPPENS!!
Remember squeaky wheel gets the oil! I've been single-handedly emailing the **** outta their tech department about this since the update.
Phew... sorry this was so long but Oh I'm so angry about it! It's like they fix one thing and 3 things break (but this is something they already fixed once!!!)

My Mood:
Glad to hear that this is actually a bug and not our connection. It happens to us quite a bit, and we do NOT run any music or any other programs with TT. We get the same timeout thing, and then just sit....we almost always end up having to log out, and most times are not sad or gagless.

Re: sigh...

Thx Ari. Good feedback, but not all of this applies to the Back Bug I am referring to.

I do know however that everyone I've talked to having this problem are using a OS other than winxp or win 2000.
I have seen the log files of two toons who use XP and have had problems with the timer running out after pressing Back.

What I mean by this is if you type (or use the toontalker) others in your party will be able to see what you say.
Again, doesn't apply to the bug I refer to. I agree that you live on on the Disney servers but others can never read what I say. I have been stuck with MSN buddies on TT top floors and they good tell me I did nothing whatsoever but dance, dance, dance

(if you are lucky enough for this to happen on top floor)
To me, the Back Bug only happens on top floors. This may be sheer coincidence but on a day of heavy playing it happens three or four times so I do have some experience to build on.

Oh and of course SPAM THE HECK OUTTA DISNEY ABOUT THIS CRASH EVERYTIME IT HAPPENS!!
Hear ye And make sure you send the bug report before you log on again so the right log is sent along.

(but this is something they already fixed once!!!)
And that is the thing that I find odd. Although I don't recognise a couple of the things you write, the bug I refer to was fixed and returned at the same time as the one you refer to. So I assume they are related.

PS: And Loosy, I play with the music off but the gag shop delay hits me nonetheless. I do have the sounds on though (or I will miss the pssssts) but I assume they are WAVs and treated differently ?

Ari, did you update Windows thinking that was the problem? I'm happily running W98SE (have been since Beta 1), and run tt for hours at a time without a single crash. The only time I crash is from a server-wide crash (and back in B2 with the old "Back" button crash). However, I haven't had a "Back" button crash since B2.

I can totally see how the download pipe is at issue. The old "Back" button crash (IMO) had to do with re-downloading what the other toons selected (download request #1), while re-displaying your gag-screen (download request #2) - AND add to that the other toons selecting "Back" at the same time (download request #3 and so on), which is often the case hehe. All this has to take place while making sure the requests are valid, and not malicious hack code.

There is a higher chance that toons will reselect out of panic or courtesy on the top floor hehe.

Yea, you have midi music and wave sound. Normally the two 'channels' don't bother eachother. I'm leaning toward Ari's POV on this though. It makes a lot of sense. If only I can figure out why I'm not affected. On second thought...why? hehe

Well exactly, I suspect also that it only happens when more toons click 'Back' at the same time which - lol - is the case very often indeed !

But Loosy, I have played since (the end of) Beta 1 also and it never hit me until the start of LE. Then it disappeared for a while and only returned with the update that is now on the main servers.

Finally, this all suggests that the top floor thing would be a pure coincidence wouldn't it ? I have kept a log of this for weeks now (where is Dr Pierre when u need him lol). First on test and now on LE again. All 21 occurrences I have logged happened on top floors. :S

$10 bill lure

I've quit buying the $10 bill lure because it seems to be the culprit when the zero clock bug strikes.

But now that I think about it ... it might have been from hitting the back button ... like when my partners choose drop after I show my $10 bill.

Today I tried to hit back on a 5th floor after the other toons played a $10 bill and drop with me doing a toon-up ... and I got the dreaded zero clock.

I've had the same problem.

I run winXP. It's happened with and without the sound on. It has happened on floors other than the top floor. When it has happened, my friends cannot see what I say.

I started having this problem with the latest update. I have sent bug reports to Disney and will continue to do so.
