Angry Screen goes gray

I just put in a new video card. Geforce 4 TI 4200 64MB ddr.

Went to Nvidia's website and installed latest driver. Installed TT cause I have rebuilt this computer. AMD 1700 processor with 384 MB ram. Cable modem. I am using direct X 8.1 on a Windows ME machine.

Here is my problem. Was playing and everything is going great. About 30 minutes into playing all of a sudden my screen goes gray. I wait for a sec to see if it will come back. Nothing. I don't shut it down but rather ALT- Tab to Desktop. Then I click back on TT and when it comes up the screen is back to normal. Then the same thing occured about every 5 to 10 minutes afterwards.

Any thoughts.

Thanks,

Duke Zippenmouth

41.XX drivers?

Installed all your windows updates for Windows ME?

Got your virtual memory settings set to automatic?

Got more than 128meg ram?

You checked your computer for spyware which may be slowing it down?

i'd recommend running ad-aware or something the like...

The free version of this is good enough no need to buy.

Almost sounds like your new car is over heating - have you tried other 3D games?

The easy work-around is to run Toontown in a window. You will still be able to maximize the window, which is kinda close to full screen. Or, you can just re-size the window to whatever you want.

Before you ask how to run in a window, there's a shortcut to do that in TTwindow.zip (LE)

Some of the other shortcuts there may be worth a try, such as the one to run in Open GL.

When in Fullscreen mode, you could also try dropping the resolution. I expect that the "-pickbestres" switch (which is default) would set it to 1600x1200 on your system. THe card may not have any problems at 1280x1064 or 1024x768.

Cool

Thanks everyone for you help and advise.

I have come to a conclusion after an all day of testing and working and testing and working.

Windows ME You Stink. Please go away.

I formated the machine and installed Windows XP installed all the current drivers and updates and low and behold a system that actually works. OMG. So anyway the long and short of it.

Windows 9.x Stinks (kids game, kids game, kids game)

Windows XP R0X0RS.

Thanks everyone who helped.

I was going to say that Windows ME stinks, but some people have purchased it and swear by it and i didn't want to offend anyone.

I use windows 2k, windows XP, and have tried Longhorn.

Longhorn will be focused towards Gaming, so it already in the early stages runs games slightly faster than XP.
