I'm tired of being disconnected!!

I love toon town. However, the constant crashes are driving me crazy!!

I just love dying in a lvl 5 building, signing back on to find out I've lost all my gags and have only 1hp left. I also love getting messages from everyone in my group that reads "that was not nice" and I cannot count the number of friends I have lost because of this. Disney I really hope there is a way for you to notify the players that don't get disconnected that you have gone LD if for no other reason that to keep friends!

I don't know if it is just tonight or what but so far the score is two for two, two attempts at buildings and two crashes. I'm throwing in the rag for tonight, getting majorly frustrated over this, it is impossible to play. Okay I feel better now....*rant off*

Have you noticed a problem with lag (a.k.a. The inability to choose a gag so the Xs show)?

Do you mind posting the error message after you get bumped?

This may have something to do with someone else on your account.

If not, something's up.

is your connection a dial-up connection (modem)? or cable/ADSL ?

Is it just toontown or are you having to reconnect to the internet itself?

If its probs at the Disney end then let them know. Unhappy customers means lost customers so they need to know.

the trouble is not our connection we have been locking up in toon town for the last few days when porting from place to place and in the cog buildings, we have a good cable connection and everything else is working the way it should.

do you use the shortcuts listed on the front of this site?
If not then try them (its a very small download).

I find the OGL shortcut works best for me and stops a lot of the sort of problems you describe.

I have had similar problems, though I have been lucky that my friends have been pretty forgiving so far. I feel expecally bad about the time I lagged out just after we killed the last cog in a building and the others were stuck in the building till they quit.

BTW I have a cable connection that had been stable except for ToonTown.

I LOVE the OGL version!!! Thank you to whomever posted this thread and made me aware of that!!! It is like I have a whole new puter now. I was dealing with major lag, spontaneous disconnects, and having to reboot my computer frequently while playing TT. I am one happy toon now

Go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and make sure you're at least at DirectX 8.1, if not 9.0.

If you're running 8, it'll cause problems when running off the webpage.

Regardless, this game should be run with OpenGL. It seems as if they program the game in OpenGL and test it with OpenGL the code port it over to DirectX. The OpenGL is much clearer, and runs with approximately 20% higher FPS.

I had the same symptoms you are all describing a few months ago and could not figure out why... I would disconnect when entering buildings or teleporting and occasionally in street fights.

I cannot stress how important this is with toontown!
I found my drive was 23% fragmented and that was lethal for Toontown. I suspect at least half of you are having problems because of this.
(For the computer noobs out there this is how to defrag your hard drive on Win 98/ME/2k):
START-PROGRAMS-ACCESSORIES-SYSTEM TOOLS-DISK DEFRAGMENTOR

set the drive letter to C: and let it go for 20mins for small drives up to a few hours for immense drives (DON'T STOP DURING DEFRAG)

I hope this helps. I hate to see sad toons. Especially if they died at the hands of the nasty dreaded LD Monster!

What do I have to have to run in OpenGL?

Do you need a newer card? I currently run on a Geforce 2 MX 64.

When I try and run OpenGL I get an "out of range" on my monitor.

Well, I downloaded the shortcuts and tested out the OGL one today. Unfortunately I was still having problems, but different ones. Once I locked up while walking into a gag shop...just kept walking and walking and walking without the door opening. I was then disconnected. Another time I completely locked up during a fight in a building, actually it was as one cog was blowing up but before the other cogs came out of the elevator.

Anyway, I will run a defrag tonight. I hope that helps. I really like this game.

Yes that card should work fine with open GL.
Just thought I'd bump this up for anyone else having this problem. Try the defrag... It's worth a shot.

I downloaded directx 9 yesterday (I was running 8.1) and last night TT played much better. Haven't had a chance to play today, but hopefully things will continue to be better. Otherwise I'll try the defragging.
