How to log off with out logging off

Here is my story/question for anyone who can answer it.

Yesterday I was in NR doing CFO all day long. When one time, several toons disappeared from the elevator, which left only 4 of us to battel the CFO and cogs. Two of those toons Completely logged off, since I am friends with them, I was the whisper. There there were two of us. The other all of a sudden vanished, like she was logging out, but I never got the whisper that she did. So There I was alone with the cogs and CFO. All I know is to close my gaming window, or to alt F4. But this completely logs you out of the game. I ended up "dead" and had no gags. How do I run while in the CFO, or in the elevator, without actually loging out of the game??
