Report your Middle 6 and Back 9 run times

There's a bit of a debate going on about whether it's better to do two Middle 6 Cog Golf Courses or one Back 9 Cog Golf Course to get tons of Stock Options. One element of that debate is determining which is faster (although there are certainly other reasons to pick one strategy over the other). I was hoping some of you might report your run times here so we can get a true range of times for Middle 6 vs. Back 9.

Please report the time you spend completing a Middle 6 or Back 9 course. You can also include the time spent waiting to fill up the golf cart or gagging up between rounds, but please list that separately.

And even if you have a run that falls within the range we already have, please report it! The distribution of times is important, too -- not just the fastest and slowest.

--------------------------
THE LATEST RESULTS
--------------------------

Current confirmed Middle 6 range: 34-52 minutes
Current confirmed Back 9 range: 59-85 minutes

Gag-Up and wait for full golf cart: 3 minutes

I grouped the Middle 6 and Back 9 run times you all reported into 5 minute intervals. If we had more data, I'd be able to use smaller intervals, but any smaller than 5 minutes and it's harder to see how the times are distributed.

A simple average of of the numbers tells us that a Middle 6 will take 41.5 minutes and a Back 9 will take 69.6 minutes. But just looking at the charts tells me that a Middle 6 will generally be a little faster than the "average" because of that outlier in the 51-55 minute column. So I'd expect most Middle 6 runs to take between 40 and 41 minutes. The charts also look like 70 minutes is a good time to use for a Back 9 (very close to the average).

I think a reasonable expectation is that over the course of several runs, your Middle 6's will average 40.5 minutes while your Back 9's will average 70 minutes.

So let's take a look at how long it should take to get 23300 Options.

13 Middle 6 runs at 40.5 minutes = 8.78 hours
12 gag-up runs at 3 minutes = 36 minutes
Total Middle 6 time: 9 hours 22.5 minutes

7 Back 9 runs at 70 minutes = 8.17 hours
6 gag-up runs at 3 minutes = 18 minutes
Total Back 9 time: 8 hours 28 minutes

I included gag-up runs because I don't think the times people reported in this thread included them. But I did not add time to wait for an invasion, because I believe that time was implicitly included in the reported times.

So, based on this very non-scientific analysis, IF you never miss an invasion (notice the gigantic IF), then the Back 9 approach looks to take almost an hour less playing time to get to 23300.

So what happens if, on one of your runs, the invasion ends just before you start dancing? (The invasions always end then, don't they?)

If you miss an invasion on a Middle 6, then you'll have 12 runs at 1874 options and 1 at 953, for a total of 23441. So you still have your 23300 options. Woo hoo!

If you miss an invasion on a Back 9, then you'll have 6 runs at 3350 and 1 at 1685, for a total of 21785. So you'll be short 1515 options. You'll need to do one more middle 6 to finish up. So that will add 43.5 minutes (gag up + Middle 6) to your time, for a total time of 9 hours 11.5 minutes. That's still faster than 13 Middle 6 runs.

As I mentioned, there are many factors to consider when deciding to do multiple Back 9 runs vs. multiple Middle 6 runs. But I'm convinced that if things go well, then the Back 9 approach will be faster.

Of course, we've all played Toontown long enough to know that the chances of 7 Back 9 runs in a row going well are pretty slim. So those of you who are realists will take the above with a grain of salt. You may still choose to do 13 Middle 6 runs instead, even if it is theoretically slower. And I may be there with you!

Thanks everyone!

Smile Two Middle Six runs

I ran two middle six runs tonight.

The first with 3 toons took 50 minutes. We ran out of sound for the last few sets of cogs. Mazes were completed without any waiting.

The second one with 4 toons who were all competent toons using mostly sound all the way took 47 minutes. In a couple mazes a toon got lost and max time was used.

I'm not sure why there was so little difference.

My first run was a 6 and I have to agree it took about half an hour to 35 min. That included losing the maze for most of us each time.

Thanks everyone for posting! Please keep doing so, even if your time falls within the range we already have.

I'm not just looking for the min and max. I want to see the distribution. So even if some super toons can do a 6 in 30 minutes, it's possible that most runs really take quite a bit longer. Once we have a significant number of runs reported, I can use the distribution to get a better "expected" run time than a simple average would provide.

...."save on your eles..." - use two aaoogahs with the two fogs - save the eles for the 10s....

....back 9s...I wouldn't even consider another nine unless I actually was prepared to use a invasion call. too much time invested otherwise...but I just started where I even need nines...glad I have about 30 on Obsidian.....lol...

Keep up the good work - maybe we will run another contest on 6s and 9s for speed (like we did a long time ago for DA Ds.....) to see just how fast we can finish one....

(also depends a bit on the random gag wins in the puzzles)

We have been doing many middle 6’s and back 9’s
The 6 take is averaging 30min the 9 averaging 1 hour
6 1874 options in an invasion
9 3350 options in an invasion
Conclusion two 6’s about an hour and 3748 options so I say spend you time doing the middle 6.

It seems to me most run times suggest that two 6’s are faster than a 9. However after completing the first 6, you will need to dance, get gags and get back in the 6. With a group of friends in a less crowded district you could probably be back in within five minutes but in river it could really depend. Even with that additional 5-10 minutes it still seems that two 6’s is faster, but this makes it even more debatable.

I wasn't sure which was better, so I timed a few Back 9's. I haven't 'officially' timed any of the Middle 6's yet, although I estimated the last couple times I ran it to be about 40 minutes, give or take.

The times for the Back 9's I logged are:

65 minutes
70 minutes
66 minutes
71 minutes
69 minutes (1 toon disconnected part way through-finished w/3)
66 minutes
66 minutes
71 minutes

I've run more, but stopped timing them. Using those numbers, I came up with an average of 68 minutes.

With the exception of the one noted, all runs started with 4 toons and ended with 4. Nothing extraordinary about or during the runs, gag misses were what I'd expect, a few of the mole stompings timed out and restarted, and I'd say the mazes were hit and miss as applicable to all toons. I should note that these were 'random' runs, so the last gag chosen was usually just before the timer ran out while everyone waited to see what the other chose.
