A question for those with Gold Rods...

Gold Rods need 5 jellybeans for bait, correct?

Do you ever catch fish which are worth less than 5 jellybeans? I currently have a Hardwood rod and the cheapest fish I've caught are worth 3 jellybeans. But since all rods can still catch the most common and lightest (opposite of heavy, not sunlight :P) fish, I'm not sure if I should keep upgrading my rod if I'm going to catch cheap fish which are worth less than the jellybeans I used for my bait.

There was a time when I would have gladly sold the gold rod back- Even with a 150 jar of beans I never broke even. I still glitch the factory for just for beans.

Keep an eye on the spots- If you find the one that gives a boot, chances are the other one is larger fish.

it depends where you fish, if your fishing say for the full moon in ddl youll struggle with the gold on 150 or less jb cache. where as if your in the brghh youll pick up the bears and get lottsa beans. theres been a lot of speculation about the gold rod and whether or not people should of taken it, from my exprience if you can get to 53/54 fish then take it, you will have to fish alot whether you have the gold or steel for the ultras regardless.
ive seen people with a gold rod at 40 ish lp, this is highly unadvisable as they only have little jb caches. meaning that only catching 8 fish max is possible, thats if you dont miss get or get a boot.

I can fish The Brrrgh with Gold Rod and fill the bucket or at least recover my 150 beans.

But, on 120 beans, that was rare that I could fill the bucket. With just four misses I had to be perfect on the other 20 casts. Sometimes, that just does not happen.

The other answer, is yes. You catch fish that are worth less than 5 beans all the time. Those common fish Puppy Dog Fish, Balloon Fish, Cat Fish, Red Balloon Fish, wish I could throw those back so they could get bigger.
