Can you miss fish with wrong rod?

Is it possible to move on to the next rod too soon? I was planning on just waiting till I got the gold rod to do all my fishing. I only have 30 fish now. Is this a mistake? I am spending all my time finishing RB and HW.

Thanks.

Yes!!!!!!

It is a waste of time because if you get newer rods and you catch more species you can have more laff points and also if you have the gold rod you cant catch some fish that you can catch when you have a weaker rod.

Actually, it's much easier to fish with the lower rods. Why? Because when you get new stronger rods, the "bowl" and probability of fish you get gets bigger. This makes catching one type of fish that could of been caught on a weaker rod less probability.

Thanks

I'm not saying for you to throw away your strong rods. I'm saying try your best to catch all the fish on your currect fishing rod, then change.

Twig Rod
  • 1 JB
  • 0-4 lbs.
  • ALL TOONS start with this
  • 38 species possible
Bamboo Rod
  • 2 JB
  • 0-8 lbs.
  • 480 JB
  • Up to 49 species possible
Hardwood Rod
  • 3 JB
  • 0-12 lbs.
  • 800 JB
  • Up to 61 species possible
Steel Rod
  • 4 JB
  • 0-16 lbs.
  • 1200 JB
  • Up to 69 species possible
Gold Rod
  • 5 JB
  • 0-20 lbs.
  • 2000 JB
  • All 70 species possible

My Mood:
You can't go back to a smaller rod once you've taken a larger rod out of your mailbox. Think of it more of trading in your small rod to have a large one. Once you have gold, you will always have the gold rod.

I've always felt it was best to obtain as many possible species with each rod before moving on. You can still catch species that required a smaller rod to catch with a larger rod. Most of the time, it is easier to catch 'em with a larger rod. There are a few exceptions such as the devil ray. The devil ray has been caught most with the gold, then followed by the twig. This is an except to the rule and there are a few others. The gold rod is supposed to be the clean up rod, quoting Disney here. Your best chances to catch any species should be with the gold rod, but as zmaster stated, you have more possible species that you can catch at each pond. It's kind of hard to weigh the two and see which is actually better for us to try to go with. I guess, it's really more up to each of us to decide which way is best.
