Hmmm, 1st of all, it takes quite a while to catch all the fish. i have been playing two years ow and only have 67 species. But for the most part, it depends on luck to catch the more rare fish.
Yes, you do have to have the Gold Rod to catch the Bull dog fish.

Ok, this helps but does not exactly answer my question. Thank you though. I think I need to ask it in a different way. What is the fastest in terms of days that anyone has caought all 70 fish?

I've seen this question twice today. People already have answered you. It depends on luck how fast you can get them, If your lucky the fastest you can get them is 16 weeks and one day. That is if you order every fishing pole on the first day available. YOu recieve the first chance to buy gold rod on about Series 2 Cattlelog 3 (16weeks) and one day for delivery. So i cant see how you can still be curious after this.

P.S. this is very unlikely, it all depends on how much you fish.
