Fishing getting harder?

Okay, so like I've been fishing my tail feathers off, and I haven't caught a new species for what seems like ages.

Currently, I'm stuck at 40 of 50 species. Yes, the very rares and ultra rares are left (Holey Mackrel, etc.) but this is what bites ... I keep catching the very rares like the Devil Ray, for example, again and again.

BTW: This is with a gold rod and fishing the "known" spots for the fish needed ... it's almost like the game thinks I've already caught them!

I must have pulled out about 200-250 buckets by now, without as much as a new record, and definitely no new species!

Are there any districts that do better than others? Is it because I got the gold rod too soon? What gives?

Sorry to bear bad news, but I fish 200 buckets a day easily and havent seen a new species in over 3 weeks. Fishing past 40 species is just nothing compared to getting to 40.

250 buckets isn't that much when you are over 40 and looking for the ultra rares. I've hauled 300-400 buckets from MM ponds in the last month, in vain, looking for the Grand and/or Baby Grand. Ask Loosy Goosy and I'll bet you'll find he has averaged well over 500 buckets for each species between 40 and 46.

Batleth's guide should point you in the right direction, but when the odds of catching an ultra rare is probably on the order of 10,000 to 1, you're on a long road.

Not that it is any consolation, but you are in good company. There are a lot of good fisher-toons out there hard at it and hitting a brick wall. I hit a 2 1/2 week stretch with no new species before I landed the Full moon, and that was 12 days ago. I for one am looking forward to the new species getting here.
I know I keep at it hoping to be the first for the last un-named moon fish and the rest of the ultra rares!
Keep at it, and look me up if you need some help hitting the streets. It's a long walk without a friend.....

Same here, 40/50 fish with the Steel Rod (and Gold is 3 weeks away lol). I do have the All-Star and Mackeral though...

Still missing the two rare Grands, three of the Moon Fish, Arabian Seahorse, Old King Crab, Devil Ray, Grizzly Bear Acuda and the Scurvy Cutthroat Trout.

Oh well, back to the docks...

A month between fish

I've decided I have to wait a month between fish. I have seven left to catch.

Devil Ray Fish
Old King Crab
Crescent Moon Fish
??? Moon Fish
Grizzly Bear Acuda
Baby Grand Piano Tuna
Grand Piano Tuna

The last three fish were a month apart. Weird huh. I guess I can wait seven months to get all 50. I'm hoping the when the next 20 come out that my last seven will be easier to catch.

well...

Well I've got same problem. I haven't been much of a fisher since number 40. If you need help I'd gladly fish streets with you. I need them. Heck, I'll fish with anyone willing to take me . But yea for yall who havent raked in a Holey Mackerel yet use the advice I got from Loosy. You will get it within about 20 buckets at your estate. Yes I got doubtful at 3:30 in the morning when i raked in my 12th bucket still with no luck. But in number 17 sure enough out it pops. Well yea I'd like to fish with anyone lol.

It's pretty common to get stuck with some very hard fish to catch after you hit around 40 species. I pulled these from Kennedy Jane's post since these are the common species that are almost impossible to catch.

Devil Ray Fish = most caught at TB, then MM and DDL next
Old King Crab = Lighthouse Lane in DD, no easy way to catch this one
Crescent Moon Fish = Lullaby Lane in DDL
??? Moon Fish = somewhere in DDL
Grizzly Bear Acuda = TB playground or Walrus Way
Baby Grand Piano Tuna = Tenor Terrace in MM
Grand Piano Tuna = Alto Ave. in MM

It might take from 1 to 1000+ buckets to catch these mega rare species. Just depends how lucky you get. While fishing on test recently, I found I was getting tons of new records. But I still had no luck in catching these mega rare species.

Batleth, I don't know what the stats are, but I did catch my Baby Grand in MM Playground.

Disney says that all districts are an exact replica of one another. That tells me that they are all the same as far as fishing goes as well.

It's probably not because you got the Gold too soon. However, my best fishertoons are the ones who tried to push every rod to the max.

My new test toon just hit 30 species (obviously because of update) with the twig. I think that will go along way once I buy the bamboo. I'd like to be around 60 fish by the time I get the gold. I think that maxing weights with the smaller rods, allows you to grab more new species as you go up.

30 with the twig, that's impressive. Only 5 more species to max your twig with all possible species for it.
I haven't found any difference between districts or piers at all. I feel if you almost max. each rod, it does increase your chances of getting new species when you get your next rod. How much, is hard to say? The toons I've taken my time on getting rods ended up getting more species than the other ones I hurried through.

Thanks, ZZ. I didn't say it was impossible to get one there, but Disney says your chances should be better on Tenor.
