HELP! Technical problems

I have noticed with two of the three toons I play, if ANYONE else is fishing at that hole, most of my casts are missed. The fish just plain pass right on by. Does anyone have any suggestions for this? Since starting to play toontown, I have upgraded my video card, and doubled my RAM. It HAS made a difference (especially the video card) but I am still "sticking" where the action will freeze for milleseconds. I am sure this is causing the problem with fishing, but I can't really afford to upgrade my vid card even more. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

(sorry if I posted this to the wrong forum)

I get the same thing occasionally too. I try to find a neighborhood that has the fewest people possible when I fish, otherwise I end up missing more than I catch

Have you tried playing in a quiet district?
I find there is a lot less lag on the quieter servers.
I prefer to fish without other toons around , I find other toons casting distracting.

Yes, it's absolutely imperative for me to fish in a quiet district. The problem is, except for DL, it's almost impossible since the update to find a district where NO ONE is fishing. Even the street ponds, if there are battle going on, I get skipping. Thanks for your input!

As long as you have one of the newer Ati or NVIDIA based video cards, then that shouldn't be the problem. If you are running WinXP then I'd suggest at least 512 mg of ram. Win98SE, then you'll need 256 mg of ram. If your running Win95, then it's time to upgrade your operating system. Windows ME and 2000 can be unstable and I'd suggest upgrading to WinXP unless your an expert on computers.
If your CPU is under 1 gig, then you might want to look into buying a newer PC. If your CPU is over 2.8 gig. then you shouldn't have much problem there. If your between 1 gig and 2.8 gig. and still having problems after reading this post, then it might be time to buy a newer computer.
Another problem might be your connection to the internet. If your still using a phone connection, then expect lag. If your running a DSL or cable modem, then you shouldn't experience much lag at all. There are a number of sites that will do a speed test for free to see your connection speed, if you don't know how to do this through DOS or DOS shell.
I'm running WinXP with 512 mg of ram and a cable modem that averages about 2.5 megs per second. I experience very little lag with TT, but even I lag on occasion. I figured there may be some lag due to server congestion between your pc and Disney's servers.
Make sure that you have at least 30%, as a rule of thumb, of free hard drive space on your hard drive. Windows and most other operating systems needs swap space for memory usage. As your RAM gets full, most operating systems like Windows will transfer some of that data to a temp hard drive area. If your hard drive is full, then Windows will be unable to utilize your hard drive to it's full and cause some serious lag when it has to refresh your RAM.
Always try to do Microsoft updates and make sure you are using the newest drivers for your video card and sound card. This will only help your pc run smoother and faster with all multimedia and office programs. It's always helpful to do a scandisk and defrag once a week, if you use your computer a great deal. Don't forget to open your computer's case and use a can of compressed air to clean it out from time to time. Dust and other particles get in your computers, from the fan based cooling system, and may cause your pc to over heat.
TT still has a memory leak. I'd suggest rebooting after every few hours of play to rid your RAM of this memory leak. Even just closing TT down and starting it back up will help some times, but this is mostly for WinXP computers. TweakTown.com is a great place to look up more specific information about your system and how to take care of it.
If you can't tell, I work on computers for a living..lol.

Thanks, I think you may have hit it on the head with the swap files. After I posted this I noticed that the memory leak was at it again, and I was down to 30 RAM. Once I reloaded, I was back up at 300+ usable. My Windows drive is pretty full, I still have an old 3 gig for my system files. My 20 gig storage had a little more room on it, but obviously that won't help with swap. Sigh, I didn't really want to upgrade even more so soon, but it looks like it's that or "quit your whining" for me. My friend who built and works on my computer has really benefitted from my tax rebate this year!

Thanks for the tips.

No problem, just trying to help out.

If you have the 3 gig has C, then I'd ask my friend to copy C to D and then switch drive letters. The 20 gig will have tons of swap space and I bet that the 20 gig actually has a faster read and write speed then the 3 gig does. It could really make a huge difference in performance. You always want the bigger, faster drive as C and any smaller drives as back up drives.

Or better yet, get me that 80 gig I have had my eye on, copy the 3 gig onto it, place it as C and donate the nuked 3 gig to a good cause... such as a local avante garde artist.
