I have 29 of 50 species and I'm stuck. I have a hardwood rod and can't seem to find another new species. Which of these would be the best bet and where would you go to catch them? Devil Ray, All Star, Holey mackerel, Florence Nurse Shark, Rocking Sea Horse, Captain Cutthroat, Scurvey Cutthroat, Piano Tuna, Baby Grand Piano Tuna, Upright Tuna, Player Piano Tuna. These are the ones I haven't caught that can be caught on a hardwood or less.

Go after the Captain or Scurvy. I prefer Lighthouse Lane

The number next to the fish is the order I'd work them. Comments right.

10) Devil Ray -- Extremely rare -- Anywhere (seems the Brrgh is good tho)
11) All Star -- Extremely rare -- I hate this fish
5 ) Holey mackerel -- Extremely rare -- try someone else's or your estate
8 ) Florence Nurse Shark -- Extremely Rare -- Daisey's Garden
4 ) Rocking Sea Horse -- Uncomon/E-Rare -- Estates / everywhere Else
6 ) Captain Cutthroat -- V Rare/ E Rare -- Donalds Dock PG or LL
7 ) Scurvey Cutthroat -- E Rare -- Donalds Dock PG or LL
1 ) Piano Tuna -- Rare -- Anywhere
9 ) Baby Grand Piano Tuna -- E Rare -- MM
3 ) Upright Tuna -- V Rare -- MM
2 ) Player Piano Tuna -- Rare -- MM Playground

You will have to fish diligently, we're talking 10's-100's of buckets to get the rarer ones (most likely) but escept for the 10, 11 and 9 I've gotten all of them fairly easy starting at hardwood. Easy is a relative term by the way

Yeah, I guess. I have thousands of jellybeans and nothing to show for it.
Do you think you are more likely to catch one of these with continuous fishing or is it just a bucket numbers game. In other words, if I catch 100 buckets will I increase my chances by fishing continuously? Thanks for the tips.

I'm telling ya, fish Lighthouse Lane and you'll catch the Captain Cutthroat within
10 buckets, and the Scurvy within 20 buckets. Afterward, hang out in Minnie's
and bag the Florence next. The rarity of the species on the guide is all out of
whack since the latest update.

Loosy is right the "rarity" is fubar since the last update.
However, I still find thsoe fish harder to catch than others so the guide is still a useful reference.

If you goal is to get a Devil Ray before you get the Rocking Horse and you're already on Hardwood then you've been misguided.

No, continuous fishing seems to have no effect. I can fish a whole day and catch nothing new (was at 40). Logged in the other night to test a theory about other people's estates and caught a new fish in the first bucket (Arabian). So no, continuous doesn't seem to be an issue whatsoever.

Thanks everyone. No, my goal is to catch 1 new species, no matter what it is. I guess I will camp out at Lighthouse Lane for a while and see if I can get it.

I'd try to get the Rocking Sea horse. Got it really easily.

I'm working on the rarity values now. They are off from what the guide says due to the update to fishing. I'm working them and should have something a little more to what they are now in the next update. It's going to take me a bit to get them right again though. Just hang in there and I'll do my best to fix them. Took me a while to get them so close before, but shouldn't take me too long now. Sorry for any missunderstandings.
