what do i do if i have a gold rod but the fish i need is only catchable on the twig rod

You keep on fishing. Just because the fish is listed with the twig rod, doesn't mean you cannot catch it with a gold rod. The listed rod is the one that is required to catch it, but any rod "higer" can still catch it
