How strong do you have to be?

Any thoughts on how strong your toon should be before you should brave the VP, coin mint, dollar mint, bullion mint, or CFO?

My Fluffy is a nice little mid-laffer, 79 laff with maxed throw and squirt, hypno-goggles, pixie dust, quicksand, and aoogah.

I got a task a couple of days ago to beat some cogs in the bullion mint, and when I went in with 3 other toons about 105-111 laff, they got off the elevator, looked at me, said "we are in trouble" and shortly after that skipped out. I suspect the problem is weak sound, which I got last and I'm working hard to build up.

Yesterday in the dollar mint, somebody invited me in, then after I struggled through the puzzle section they said "I have to go" and bailed, leaving me with one other strong toon and one weaker than Fluffy. Thanks to lure, we actually won, but on the last cog all I had left was lure, heal, some sound, and a single firehose. No pies or cakes, or storms left.

My friend tried to hit the VP a few days ago, she's about 65 laff with good throw, squirt, and the elephant. Nobody would let her go in with them.

Way too long here, sorry, but any feel for how much laff or anything else you should have before you hit the VP, CFO, or the various mints?

I think at 79 you are good enough for the VP and the mints and it won't be too long before you can have a go at the CFO. I've seen people bail on a 45 laff point toon in the mint but a 79 toon with 3 100+ toons really shouldn't have any problems.

I've got 106 laff points now but had 65 when I first tried the mint. I went in with just 2 others 100+. I went sad in the last battle but one of the other toons (a friend) computers crashed part way through the Mint so that why we ended up losing.

I'd certainly go in with you - in fact I'd have no problem going in with 3 other toons with 79 laff points! Try again and you'll find a nice group at some point.

You can VP all you want. In fact, the hypno-goggles really go a long way anywhere. If you VP a lot, there will be times that you'll be the strongest toon in a cog fight and you'll have to do all the luring. But I think you're strong enough to survive that, at least some of the time.

Most people rate you by how many laff points you have. If you have 70+ you are fine. If you're in a telemarketer suit, usally high laffers won't click on you and are ok with you going. But cold callers are usally checked on to see if they are below 70lp. If the majority of the people in the VP lobby are below 70lp. Big chance most of the high laffers will go outside, get a group together, teleport to a different dist.

I dunno anything about CFO. I've never CFO'd before.

Cool You are

capable now of doing all, mints and CFO, you are going to have problems finding people to go with though, at that LP, also alot of people want to sound the whole mint, so if they see your lp and no fog, they might ditch you. The task for help a new toon under 85 make it though the mint, kinda set a bar, in some people's minds.

I have alot of uber (low lp, max gags) friends I take everywhere, and others allow them cause I do. Alone just like my old uber, they are judged before playing, not after.

I would use this board to find people NOT AFRAID, or in too much of a hurry to go with you, lot of big laff have 3-4 toons, and have smaller toons willing to go with you. (kalan too needs mints)

The puzzles I would go to an empty dis., keep going in the mint alone till you have the puzzle rooms first, then practice. When people are waiting it can be very stressful. So learn to do the puzzles before doing mints. Some people will not wait for you.

By the time you have a suit, your gags are going to be more then enough for CFO, whose fight with cogs, is not as hard as a full bullion run.

I would be VPing as much as I could, at your lp, if you have problems there, go with The Cold Caller's Guild, they post times here. Good Luck!!!!

Well in my opinion...

Factory:28 Laff and Above
VP:60 Laff and Above
Coin Mint:68 And Above
Dollar:75 and above
Bullion:85 and above
And in the CFO lobby there is mostly 80-117 laffers. BUT! Most people think that is is risky for 4 or more Short Changes on an elevator in a cfo.
Don't worry.

That's a good assessment. I'd have to agree with you on all points! However, when I look at toons going into mint, I'm not so worried about laff as I am with gags. Same with VP. I have no problems with CCS so long as they have decent gags, especially tu (at least the cane), throw (at least cream pie, prefer cake) and squirt (at least hose, prefer storm). Sound isn't as critical in VP and lure is good, but only when you have big magnet and higher. Hope this helps...

(I also agree that with weak sound gags, people don't want to go with you in the mint, for fear that you'll want to work sound there and with aoogha being the highest, that's tough!)

Thanks for the help!

Sounds like a need to mothball that bullion task for a little bit unless I run into somebody who has the "help a <85 laff toon through the mint" task. I hadn't tried the VP yet, and it also sounds like I should give it a go. Hopefully I'll find some people going in the VP who will look past the cold caller disguise, otherwise I'll check on a CCG time. Other than sound and the (I find) difficult to practice trap, Fluffy's getting pretty solid.

Your problem, as you seemed to have figured out, is the bullion mint. Many people doing the bullion mint are doing it for cogbucks and want to do quick runs with other maxxed toons. Some are militant one foggers that cannot stand to do the mint any other way than 1 fog and 3 elephants each and every set. I even had one jump out on me when I dared to use a second fog to finish off the 11s.

If you stick to coin and dollar mints you will be mostly OK. Also, if you want to do the bullions, stand near the door and announce your task. If others are saying they need more cog merits, then they are less likely to be willing to take you, but you never know. Personally, if we have two maxxed toons and two in your state, we would be fine on a bullion, but even then, sometimes I don't want to have to go slow if I am trying to get bucks to do a cfo with someone that is waiting for me. That's when I would say something like Sorry, I need more merits.

My Mood:
VP- 56 laff, with fair gags. Cake, close to storm, good sound, pixie dust with toonup.
Coin Mint- 70 laff, fair gags. Cake, Storm Cloud, Elephant with sound, Pixie dust.
Dollar- Same as above, maybe fog with sound.
Bullion- 70 laff, Maxxed sound. Take around 13 aoogahs, 7 elephants, 3 fogs.
CFO- Must be in dreamland tasks(Not aloud to cfo if not). Well gags. A few maxxed gags as well.

This is what I think is reasonable, if everyone did this we would not have as much elevator shuffling.

Ok..my opinion is...Your gags are good...I think you could VP without a problem..goggles are a big plus! If you are getting tasks offered to you for mint runs then you are ready for the mint. My friend and I take anyone in with us and usually, as a group, we make it just fine. It's the hits you have to worry about especially in the longer mint runs (i.e. Boullion)...those can be brutal, especially if you get "picked on" by the cogs. I would wait to CFO until you have at least 80 laff points (again, hits are brutal) but if you have earned your suit then you have earned the chance to try it. There are many willing toons who will take you with them...buy the phrase, "mind if I join you?" If the toons say, "I think this is too risky for you!"..skip them and move on to another group...Like I said, if my friends and I have room we'll take anyone with us because we feel everyone needs to have a chance to practice and play.
BTW: running mints is an awesome way to turn that "aoooga" into a fog rapidly!
