You can do runs at the cashbot mint or in any cashbot building...but you're better off in the mint.
Be careful in there though, make sure you have some big toons with you because even in the coin mint ( there are three mints) you're usually greeted by four level 11 cogs.

You do mean the cashbot suit right?

If you mean sellbot, the same applies, but the factory has been downgraded for mid laffers so you should be fine in there.

That's not really the correct answer. The truth is, you get merits by defeating Sellbots (or Cashbots). Most people use the factory, because you get a lot of Cogs in a hurry. The mint is the same way.

You can get merits by defeating Cogs in the street. Try it.

Since you said "merits" and not "cogbucks", I assume you just finished your Sellbot suit, not your Cashbot. As Sally Kat said, to get merits you could go back to the factory. Or just defeat a few more Sellbots anywhere.. Any Sellbots will earn you merits -- in buildings, on the street, or anywhere walking around in Sellbot HQ. When you first get your suit you only need 20 merits, and you can get those from just a few Sellbots in the street.

It should be easy, as I only have to defeat 20 cogs but Ive seen the merits for other and why do I see like 2000-6000?

It's because every time you defeat the VP, you earn a "promotion" in your cog suit level. In general, the higher your cog suit, the more merits you have to complete. This thread shows the number of merits/cogbucks needed for each cog suit level.

I left out an important detail. In the factory, mints, and buildings, there are some bonus merit points awarded that you don't get in the street.

So a lot of folks in your situation would just go through a small sellbot building. After you get to the point that you need more merits than you get out of a building, use the factory.

Also, the number of merits is equal to half the size of the cog (before any bonus calculations), not one per cog, which is what I think the OP is thinking.

if u didnt catch that he meant that when u defeat a cog that is like,o say,lvl6.divide his lvl be 2 and u get 3 merits.(if u have an odd number like 7 it would be considered 4 merits)

There are no longer "bonus" merits awarded. Disney stated this was a bug and they removed them. Merits/bucks are awarded by the same multiplier as gag experience is.
