Question Cog HQ Question

I know this is a dumb question but I was wondering if someone can explain the whole Cog HQ thing to me. I don't understand the whole merits thing and SOS in battle in cog buildings. I'm guessing the SOS has something to do with Cog HQ but I really don't know. I haven't taken any Cog HQ tasks because I have no clue what is going on. PLEASE help!

If you haven't taken a HQ task yet that's good. I recommend holding off as long as possible and avoiding the HQ alltogether until/unless you are forced to take a HQ task to continue. Getting wrapped up in factory/VP runs might distract from important things like gag track training and building up your LPs.

If you go into the HQ at the end of Oak Street you will see 3 main areas. Directly in front of you as you enter is the pit. That area is safe from roaming cogs. Beyond that is the HQ building and at the right rear is the entrance to the factory.

You can't get into the HQ building unless you have a cog disguise. Each disguise is made up of 10 pieces. A toon starts as a level 1 Cold Caller. You can see the status of your disguise in your schticker book.

You get one disguise piece each time you complete a trip through the factory and beat the factory foreman who is a level 11 skelecog normally accompanied by 3 level 7 cogs. In a normal run through the factory you will beat 20 cogs. A long run which includes rooms you don't necessarily have to go through will get you 35 cogs.

After you run the factory 10 times and complete your disguise you then have to accumulate merit points. The amount of points is based on your disguise level. A level 1 Cold Caller only needs 10 points. A level 12+ Mr. Hollywood needs 5,500. You get merit points by beating Sellbots. You get 1 merit point for every 2 levels of the cog you beat. Kill a level 6 Sellbot and you get 3 merit points. In the factory there are also some bonuses. A normal factory run gets you about 206 merit points and an extended run gets 561.

After your disguise is done and you have your merits you can enter the VP elevator in the HQ building. You can enter the building with just a complete disguise but you can't enter the elevator without your merits.

Up to 8 toons can enter the VP elevator. When the doors open, the toons are split into 2 groups of 4. You meet the VP...he discovers you are toons in disguise and 2 rounds of battles follows and they can be very nasty. It's not uncommon to be faced with 4 level 12 skelecogs at once. The VP is holding a toon shopkeeper hostage. If you beat all the cogs and skelecogs the VP throws at you, you'll get the chance to attack him directly with pies supplied by the hostage shopkeeper. Whoever is still around after the VP has been defeated then receives an SOS card from the shopkeeper toon. SOS cards can be used in future battles and each card will summon the shopkeeper who will then help you in some specific way. Some cards will restock you gags, some will guarantee the cogs will miss or the toons in your group will hit. Some provide a specific gag...usually powerful, and some will heal the group.

When the VP discovers you are really a toon you will lose some disguise pieces..usually between 2-4 of them. If you beat the VP you get a promotion in addition to the SOS card. If you go in as a level 1 Cold Caller, you will leave as a level 2. You will then have to do factory runs to get back the lost disguise pieces and then additional runs until you amass the required number of merits for your new disguise. The more you get promoted, the more merit points you need for your next promotion.
