Hmmm
After reading all the posts here on this thread... a question still weighs on my mind....
Did it ever occur to anyone that maybe the toon that was being "a bossy low laffer" was just trying to work a certain gag? And knowing that someone with "Hollywood" status surely was maxxed on all their gags, hopefully wouldn't mind helping them work that gag? Personally I've found that when others get upset about toons making suggestions on what gags to use, usually it means they have an "I'm-better-than-you-why-are-you-telling-me-what-to-use?" attitude. I have a toon that's 102 and 2 that are 103's... What else is there to do at that level besides VP, fishing, and helping other toons get where you are? I went into VP with 7 toons, one of which was a 47 laff. We all made it out. If a high level toon wants to make TT challenging, I suggest taking some low laffers in the VP and making it out with all 8 toons that go in. NOW, that's a challenge!! I've let toons go sad before when they've sat on the sidelines, watching, waiting for the moment they can jump in the battle in just the nick of time to get credit for it. OR when they go in the factory and sit back while everyone kills all the cogs until the foreman fight, just to get credit or parts for the factory. I'd say that I was probably guilty of teaching a lesson or 2 also, but not at the expense of other's hard work to get to the VP. As for comments about, "all a toon loses is parts and beans." True, on the surface it seems... but what about the time to acquire those things. For someone else to just dismiss the time another spends to reach that point and treat it as if it doesn't matter is rude and self-centered. I know I value the time I get to play toontown. Some of us just don't have THAT much time on our hands to sit and play. Respect goes a long way.

Just because you think it's right doesn't make it so. And if becoming a 108 means I have to be mean to every toon with lower laff than me, I'm ready to quit right now.

Congrats and have fun
First of all, Congrats on the level 40! You guys have probably gotten to 45 while this thread has been pulling.
If I go into a battle with strangers, I expect a challenge. That is a risk I like to take to keep it interesting. If I want a predictable VP, then I'll go with a pack of friends. It's that simple. Everyone has a choice to make about who they want to play with and how they want to play. Play the game, have fun. :-)

toons deserve to die?
I have been playing this game for 2 years now and I have never
thought that a toon assisting in the battle deserved to die. If they use a gag that is not appropriate let them know in a NICE way. I will say I have been frustrated to the point of yelling at the computer but I will not let someone go sad. I have toon up for that very reason, to help people stay happy. I think back to playing with some of the 106 laffers when they were new to the game, and boy oh boy, did they screw some things up!!!! I was a "noob" once too and everyone that played with me took the time to help me make better choices when it came to battles. They didn't fly off the handle and call me stinky or use any of the phrases under the stinky heading. Does anyone remember when those phrases were ONLY used to yell at cogs? I will say that if a toon is bumming a ride through the factory and refuses to contribute I am not concerned with them. They are just like any other toon standing on the sidewalk during a street battle. I don't owe this type of toon anything. I will try to encourage him/her to join the battle but if they haven't by the time we kill the warehouse cogs, too bad!!!! I will not stomp the light thingys. My friends and I will just run to the door and toon each other up during the next battle. This being said, I still do not use any "you stinks" on these toons either. I have a sf that is 13 years old and, lets just say, I am older than that. He was trying to get me to be mean to a toon in the factory and I would not do it. He asked me when we were done why I was nice. If a toon tries to help, I am going to help that toon!!! I am an adult and without being sf with a toon I have no way of knowing what age person I am dealing with in a battle. I have been shocked before after I have made sf's with toons. There are some 10 and 13 year olds out there that play better and more maturely than some of the 35+ sf's I have had. I have to remember that there are young children playing this game and make sure my behavior is suitable. I have come back from answering the phone and my 2 year old will be running me around in circles and once or twice he has actually run me into the street!!! He has gotten some "you stinks". It wasn't Szlin that was telling him that, however, I am sure with as many "you stinks" that she has put out there, that she has yelled at some young children. So, Szlin, while you are running around toon town thinking you are the mayor of it, remember, there are children playing that need help to get better. Everyone makes stupid mistakes and seeing that you are SOOO good, you should be able to help correct these toons mistakes. Also, before you push the " you stink" phrase next time, imagine a cute little kid sitting at the computer trying to have some fun. Sadie Bananagoober

You kill toons all the time? I don't care what level you are, that is nothing to boast about. It saddens me to think there are toons out there like you that are getting your fun by taking it away from others. I hope my daughter never runs into you in TT, she's only 7 and plays just for fun. Not all toons are so goal-oriented that it hinders them from being nice to toons who are where they once were themselves. I'd rather play in VP with a level 1 cold caller that's an upstanding TT citizen and go sad, then be a level 40 Hollywood that's stepped on everyone in my path that's slightly irritated me. Yes, this game is just for fun... true. To some it's more serious then others, hence the reason for trying to reach such high status. If it was 'just for fun' we wouldn't need to 'teach lessons' about the game to others that are just so "beneath" us. It's good to have ambition in the game, it keeps you interested. However, let's all try to remember this game is set up for children and targeted towards children. I know the next time I contemplate letting a toon go sad that has no gags and insists on jumping in a 5stry Sellbot DL building with me, I'll try to remember... "This could just be a kid."

You need to start thinking for yourself and don't follow the pack. The method of punishment Szlin uses (that folks have testified to on this thread) is to use bike horns and aooogas on *lured L11 & L12's to kill off lowbies. She herself is doing the very thing she wants others not to do, and she's using her high LAFF as a cushion to do it rather than sounding with the other toon and doing what we're all suppose to do: defeat the cogs. Further, us sounders are creating a mindset that Sound is the only way to play the factory and VP, because of its overwhelming power. Can you blame toons for wanting to use it all the time? We sounders are partially to blame for creating this culture. UpTilDawn, from my experience, there are more bossy toons in the factory and VP who are bossy simply because they know what high laffers have—the big guns. It's a form of leeching. Case and point—"Let's use sound!" when they themselves don't have sound and they know the other 3 will destroy the cogs. It's happening with more and more frequency. Further, non-toonup toons happen to be more bossy than toons with toon-up. All you have to do is take the time to look at their stats. And I'm not just talking about begging for Toonup. Trust me, After hitting L41 Holly, I've had a chance to observe plenty of toon behavior. There are definite trends. Last edited by Loosy Goosy; 04-19-2004 at 03:22 PM. Reason: added 'lured' |

I'm not ready for VP and I'm still dreading going back into the factory some day (I got birthday cake this weekend so I'm working hard! Yay!). But when I've watched my 8 year old play, it's the friendly toons that have impressed me and him a LOT more than those with high levels who push him away. Rude high laffers aren't anything to get excited about. We see them as someone who just has a lot of free time to be there. But most of the toons we have run into have been really helpful and friendly. What wonderful examples!
About being bossy....the speedchat can often make people come across that way. It would be nice if there were options that say "sound?" instead of "let's use sound." But we're limited and since we can't hear each other's voices, we often do come across as bossy when we don't mean to be. The phrase "you stink" should only be used on the cogs. It's rude to tell a toon that they stink no matter what. No exceptions. "An eye for an eye" only makes everyone blind. Frankly, I think I should have the phrase "I stink". I would be using that one a LOT!

A tad off topic here, but only a tad... Trust me, I will bring it on topic by the end. As some of you know, my eldest toon does not have sound. I chose no sound simply because everyone else had it... Of course, there was no VP in October! Because I had no sound, my other gags, especially toon up, got maxed very easily... others use sound, I would use _________ then if cogs aren't gone, next round I would use toon up. Several of my friends have made comments to me that they are amazed, they feel they could never make it without sound. I didn't know any better.... HOWEVER, my middle toon, who is now a respectable level (see sig) has sound. It got maxed before even throw. And I am still fighting to get my squirt to level 6, because other players tend to want you to use your foghorn against the 4 12s if you have it and they want to use it (It IS easier). (By the way, 2 nites ago 3 of us did a merit run using only drop and toon up. Was just as fast as using sound the whole way, and was HILARIOUS). Anyway, my baby toon is now at upper 40s. Training for sound now (learned my lesson about getting sound first!) and I have been known to tell people "I think you should use sound". NOT because I want them to kill the cogs for me, noooooo, I want my gag experience too! No, I say this because I am aware of which cogs WON'T get killed with it, and am prepared to attack that cog with my own gag. And if all cogs will die, I have been known to say it and then throw my lure at the last second (where is my favorite saying "DODGE THIS" when I need it???) Of course, toons who don't know me tell me I stink all the time... I mean, only a newbie lures cogs when others are sounding, RIGHT??? (Did you catch the sarcasm?) And those of you who are s/f with my eldest toon know that I say "Feel free to use sound" all the time... doesn't mean I want to not participate. No speed chat for that though, I think you should use sound is the closest there is. If you say no, I understand. But do I deserve to go sad because you misinterpret what I meant by it?????? When I was on my first couple VPs with my middle toon I went in with some top level Hollywoods who were friends of a friend who invited me. He too was on his current "baby" toon. One of those there was Sizzln Peaches. My eldest was already a H12, and I had gone sad at most 3 times in VP before that. It was the toughest VP battle I have had to date... which would have been ok, but all the H12s tp'd out when he was on the helipad (to save themselves the work of getting merits)... and some of the others had gone sad. I thought that strange at the time, but didn't put 2&2 together. Well, so it was down to me and my friend on our non-maxed toons. We both were experienced in VP. He got all the way back up the second ramp, we got him back down. But when he started jumping and made it all the way back up to the cage, we agreed to quit. Two of us down to 12 laff had not much hope no matter how much experience we had. After having read this post, I am wondering if maybe "someone" was trying to teach us a lesson? Did I maybe say "I think you should use..." in that battle and offend someone???? The lesson I learned probably wasn't the one intended... I learned not to play with certain toons, and I haven't since. And if it was someone else being "taught a lesson", why was I forced to be saddened too? But then, I have already been reprimanded on this forum for being irritated by inconsideration, so I won't continue with that thought. So, anyway, one last comment. Why is it ok for a parent to be judge and jury in protection of their mid-laff child, but not ok for some other toon to be judge and jury to said child? What if the toon you were teaching a lesson to was the same age as your child Sizzlin? Yes, maybe they treated your daughter poorly... its just too bad THEIR mom wasn't there, level *41* Hollywood, deciding to seek revenge against you for treating THEIR kid poorly. But then, I know what's coming, I wasn't there, how could I possibly have a right to an opinion about hearsay? My daughter is 8. If I ever saw a toon attack her, you bet I would try to teach them a lesson, so in that I may be hypocritical. However, I would like to think I would teach them a *valuable* lesson, one which I wouldn't mind my daughter emulating, one which would not shock my own parents. And one which did not hurt or even inconvenience innocent PEOPLE along the way (notice I didn't say toons, I mean the people behind them).

Excellent post Kehawin. Since you quoted me I just want to add that I will try to
tone my sound down from trunk to aoooga if a toon has another gag selected, IF they select the correct cog (highest in the group). That's another reason I bring L1 gags with me into the factory (not the VP), to prime others' gags and to have a little fun using Feather and Bike Horn, my personal favorites. For all those who say "You stink!" is only to be used for the cogs—here's a little clue for you—the cogs can't hear or read! Let's thinken up the skin a little, lol! I don't blame folks for being upset when "You stink!" is unwarranted but it's all about perception anyway. Laugh it off
