Original Post: "Cold Callers Unite" 02-22-2004, 02:19 PM

I've just spent a very frustrating hour trying to get on the Sellbot Boss Building elevator. I've only been on once before, and I didn't make it, but not because I am not a good player.

I've just received my #5 cattlelog, so I must be a five week old toon. Already I have 62 laff limit, Brrgh teleport access, all my throws, five squirt , 5 sound, 4 toon up, and 4 drop. I have made and remade a cog disguise, sometimes easily, with 3 100+ toons, sometimes squeaking by with toons on par with (or lower than) me. But I know how to make the best of what I've got. And I know how to COOPERATE.

I think I do so very well, because I HELP OTHER TOONS. Whether I need the building or not, if I'm not in the middle of a pitched battle, or about to board an elevator for a 4+ building that I suspect has the drop I really need, when my friends call, I answer. I'm not perfect. Folks who don't play as often as I do, don't last on my friends list. We all know it is best to work with people who are working on similar tasks. But for every one building I've defeated for myself, I have defeated a building for a friend. Heck, just the other day, I helped a new toon defeat a building because it was there, and he asked for help, and I had the time. No jelly beans, No reward. Well, unless you consider this:

When you were a 19 laff limit idiot, AND WE ALL WERE ONCE, you depended on polite, cool, higher level toons to let you on elevators, toon you up, compliment you when your fruit pie slice dealt the death blow to that last standing cog. When that fool kid succeeds, we all succeed. The newbie goobers get better with encouragement, and the game grows. Subscription goes up, ToonTown expands, and we all win.

Sure I've "died" in a building that I really needed and had looked all over for, because some fool 16 LL slipped in and took the slot I needed for my 50 point pal. But hey guess what? IT IS A GAME folks, and there are little kids playing. Within 24 hours, I've found what I've needed.

Ok, I ditched a friend once because she followed me into a building without any gags and we all "died", but I was having a bad day, and that could happen to anyone. (BTW Jenny if you can forgive me, I'll be your friend again) Don't make a habit of being mean. If you are getting so steamed by those fool newbies that you are pounding your computer desk, cursing at the screen, here is my advice: Get yourself a cool drink, and go lie down for a while. YOU NEED TO TAKE A BREAK.

Do you know ho many times I got ditched on the Sellbot VP elevator tonight? They even ditched a level 8 cog disguised toon. Then they laugh. Listen carefully: Toons in disguise are not Cogs. They are toons. What is wrong with you folks? So you get a couple of newbies on your team, and perhaps because of this you don't defeat the veep. Is gagging up, raiding the factory for parts, and trying again any more time consuming than spending an hour ditching cold callers on the elevator? You know what, you might succeed, and then you will have made new friends. I find the times I have won by s****ing by far more exciting, memorable, and satisfying than the battles I've won in which I come out of it in better shape than I went in!

By the way, if you ctrl alt del out of the game before the veep elevator ride is complete, you will still be alive and in Sellbot HQ, with your disguise intact. A big loophole? I think it's necessary when people wait all night on a loading platform for a cold caller-less elevator. Hey, you high level toons in Sellbot HQ, weren't you cold callers once, too?

Or.. Are you now a cold caller? Would you like to brave the Sellbot VP with a sturdy bunch of brave toons with less than 70 laff points? Reply to me, and I will help to set up a guild of newbie veep building raiders. United, we will be Mr. Hollywoods in no time. Your alternative is the elevator shuffle.

Cold Callers Unite!

AND SOME REPLIES:

"I wouldn't mind helping in vp.I hate the shuffle too. When I first started vp,I was one who always looked at gags and lp's.I learned my lesson the hard way! I started a new toon 2 weeks ago,and 3 strong friends of mine took me into vp.I was 65lp.The sad part was I ended up on the other side of my friends.I had a toon who wouldn't toon me up.Kepted asking me,"are u new here"? I had pretty good gags to.I was so mad that she played like that! I felt like going on my 103 toon who is maxed Mr.Hollywood just to show her I wasn't new here.Made me think about the low laughs who try to go in and fight the vp,but no one will go in with them.My new toon is now 101,and is a cold caller level 5.So if anyone wants help in vp,I will be happy to help out! Just send me a pm to let me know when and where."

AND:

"I don't know if my toon is of acceptable strength, 62 Laff, 4 Toonup, 5 Sound, 6 Throw, 5 Squirt, and 4 Drop. i am available most evenings Central. Please let me know.

Later!"

(Mr. Frizzy Cheesywhip, quoted above, has laff now in the 90s, and is a GLAD HANDLER. Your results may vary )

AND: (Excellent advice)

"Here are just a few suggestions for any of you who may not have been in the vp fight before.

Prepare to face a total of 35 cogs. There will be two rounds, one with regular cogs and the next with skeltons. Probably there are posts that give you a good approx. of how many each of 11's and 12's you might find but starting out with the first one, there are plenty of them. Prepare your gag bag accordingly. Delete your rakes and marbles. Except for lipstick, level 3 gags are useless in there. Level 4's in throw, drop, sound (is that the bugle) and squirt are ok most of the time, sand is hardly ever used and should be used only selectively. Sometimes using the bugle when all others are sounding is just enough to take the group over the top. Rarely is it enough alone.

Use your gags accordingly. Most of the time I drop a piano on the first 12 while other sound and maybe one other uses a firehose. Sometimes we drop two safes. Just remember you have a lot of cogs to go and they are big.

Be prepared to take a little damage and still fight. But, don't put off tooning up. One row of 12's can do MAJOR damage.

Last but not least, when you get close to the end of the second round of cogs (and it's not always easy to tell) you need to play in a way that insures that all of your group will finish the battle with a full laff. REMEMBER, toonup misses sometimes. The best time to lure and knock them off one at a time while everyone is full laff is at the end. Usually, just like in a building, the last cog is a lower level 9.

AND:

LASTLY:

Wow, we had quite the turnout last night. No less than 3 parties went in. Two made it through. I'm impressed folks. BTW, thanks zman for hitting me with those pies. Saved my toon butt! I even hit the box!... once. Really, what one needs is practice; once you get through the cogs and skeletons what you're counting on is merely your reflexes and the speed of your computer and connection. (2X I jumped, but the lag.... Oh, I don't want to talk about it! ) I shouldn't complain. One toon on my side for skeletons froze. Every turn the clock ran down! Took us a while, but we made it anyway.

Anyhoo... It was a bit chaotic, so perhaps we could form teams here, then gather that way in the pit. 3 teams, 3 captains. One can be my party, and if it is ok with you all, can Queen Slappy take one, and Mr Frizzy take the other? This doesn't have to be permanent. If anyone agrees to captain, then changes his/her mind, it is easily fixed.

Also let's spread the mid laffers around. With 3 teams there is no need to put them all in the same battle.

(That was my post!)

So if you got your suit and your merits and no party, check us out!
