No... WE DON'T WANT YOU TO USE SOUND

I've done tons of VP's. But in the last week, I've seen more people who don't know what they're doing (in their 100's) using sound RIGHT AFTER I lure them. I just lost another VP... yes VP, because of this. I'm starting to think I should just quit VPing until smart people learn to fight correctly.

sorry to burst your bubble but they are probably Greifers. A greifer is someone who try's to ruin runs who try's to unlure cogs and who try's to make it harder for you, no one likes them.

Sorry I am confused. There is nothing wrong with using SOUND on LURED cogs...AS LONG AS you use enough sound to kill the cogs.

I am guilty......of SCREAMING that "Don't use sound on lured cogs" over and over when I was new. I did not understand. After all you don't get experience points if you use sound on lured cogs right? Wrong!

Yes, I know there is a pop-up on the TT hints that says you don't get BONUS kill points if you sound lured cogs...you do however...get your regular experience points.

When training LURE I would use it all the way through the factory when others were sounding. First, the more you use it the sooner you max it and Secondly, sound won't miss on lured cogs.

Warning: often in CCG VPs, when we are trying to keep the lower laff toons alive we DO NOT sound because if you wipe out a row of 1, 2, 4, 12 level cogs, you could end up facing 4 level 12 cogs...And then there is the debate of which misses more...sound or lure...but let's not go there.

Just trying to give the other side here...

I must admit the OP was a little vague in his story but I'm afraid you misunderstood what he was saying as well. What he's saying is that they were using sound right after he lured which caused him to go sad. Your 100% right that there is nothing wrong with using sound on lured cogs as long the sounders inflict enough damage leaving the group to recieve little or no damage in return. However, this wasn't the case as the OP stated in so few words that he went sad. What can be asked is that if the OP had sounded as well would that have killed the cogs? What was the lvl of the cogs being sounded upon and what sound gags was used by the group? These are questions which would back whether or not it was a misunderstanding by the group thinking that the OP should have sounded as well. However, if the cogs were 9 or greater LVL cogs and everyone was picking weak sound then can't really blame the OP for attempting to lure. I also don't think it has anything to do with gaining experience points with lure from the OP. I'm going to go on a hunch and think that he lured because he knew that the sound wouldn't have killed the standing cogs. Nevertheless, who knows I wasn't there..

GL and don't give up OP...

Like someone else said...there's always going to be griefers wherever you go. Some people just like to ruin it for others, and that's sad. But don't give up on the VP!!

Could it be possible that they wanted you to sound, and if you did sound instead of luring, all the cogs would have died and you wouldn't have went sad?

I would like to know if the op has sound or not yet. Maybe that's why he was using his lure.

I don't understand. This is a kids game played by people of all ages. My best friend is a newcomer to TT and I'm pretty sure he's an adult. We are both over 100 laff and he still makes a few mistakes now and then. I remember my first toon and I pity the people who played with her. I made plenty of mistakes, and that is how I learned. I have went sad 3 times this week in the VP. I'll keep trying and I take it for granted that people make mistakes. You never know what's going on around them while they are playing, so just keep trying and have fun.

That is what was on my mind. Ive seen lots of times everyone is choosing sound, but one lures and it messes up the sequence because not all of the cogs get destroyed.

This isn't a first playing shooter or a real-time game. The timer lasts long enough to make the non-<bad> decision and usually you already have something in mind even before the timer starts. It doesn't take long to decide NOT to use sound when someone is luring. There's a speedchat specifically warning against this. Why does sound have to be the default choice anyway?

It takes alot of screw-ups to make a 100 laffer go sad. It means that the team is low on laff. So what if you can sound through that batch of cogs, there will be a new batch and you have to lure anyway so that you can toon-up. When the team is low on laff, toon-up/lure should be the default safe choice. Sound is only when you're really really really sure.

You don't have to play perfectly or make the best decision. You just have to not pick the worst decision. Most of the time you won't be lucky enough to have the firepower to sound through the cogs. If it's a row of lvl 10 or less cogs, I might not care much but if it is 11-12, it really annoys me when a gung-ho toon tells the team to use sound only to use an Aoogah or worse in the end. And this will be the same guy that will ask for a toon-up the next round.

First..let me state that I'm very low in VP experience since I stopped doing VP after a very very bad run some time ago. [yes I'm getting up my nerve again but that's another story}

Second: What I think some toons don't think of is: You can lure cogs while others pass or tu. Just because someone is luring doesn't mean you have to throw, squirt, trap, or sound something. It's much easier doing anything with a group of sfs so you can communicate fast.

We use lure a lot of times even when next we'll all sound. We don't lure/sound at the same time though. We will lure and tu at the same time, or lure and then two will tu while the others might kill 1 or 2 cogs. We finally got a low laff friend to realize what we meant when we kept saying..you should pass while we lured. They realized that getting the cogs lured, then toon up those in need while another might kill one or two of the cogs, is a good thing. That way you might deal with 1 or 2 cogs going after you, not 4 lvl 10s or 11s.

Third...as another stated: Cold Callers Guild is a great group. Times and districts have to be checked. If you want to make sure that you are going in with an experienced group, get sfs/post/communicate with others.
