It's about maxing the group (not the toon)
Quote:
What I see is that if 8 toons of a reasonable capability show up, likely they'll get on the elevator and make a go at the VP. If for some reason that doesn't go well, then it's time to refine that with more information. I don't play this game to grief myself. It takes practice to get the hang of jumping when the VP jumps. The early ones to go sad in the VP battle (after the skeleton wave) are typically the early cold callers. We can try to tune them up, but it's easier if there were not so many in the elevator (notice I didn't say none). We were all cold callers to start with, some have advanced to the other levels and some are just getting their cog suits put together. In time, I expect cold callers to be somewhat a rarity. For now, more than 4 level 1/2 cold callers is more that I can handle. I don't see this as elitist. I want to advance (like anyone else) and I don't want to be sad in the playground. The last VP run I had, we had 4 surviving toons to take down the VP (it took 90 minites), all 8 toons survived the skeleton wave. If there are 9 or more toons in the lobby, we know somebody isn't going in on the first wave. Often times there is no first wave, all toons disband and re-group to other districts. Otherwise we will all judge who we will or will not get into the elevator with. If there is consensis, then we are off to see the VP. If not, we continue until we have consensis. There is no 'secret hadshake' between the big toons going on to exclude anyone. This ain't no 'good-old-boy' club What I see, are toons bellyaching because there are "better toons" than theirs willing to make these VP runs and the 'best 8' are what typically get to go. You may think yourself equal to or better than some of the toons that went (and may actually be better), but there is no way for anyone but your friends (the toons you typically play with) to know this. If you are not my friend, then the externals are all I have to guide my judgement. The better those externals look, the less likely anyone will have ideas that your spot on the elevator needs improving. If all your VP runs are with a group of 8 friends, you'll never see this aspect of the game (and you'll probably advance quicker than I do). Have fun in toontown, ...Bear

Luckily I am up to a level 7 Glad Handler, so I don't have to worry much anymore about people not wanting me. At this stage of the game, I like having 1 or 2 Cold Caller Level 1s. Since discos are not much of an issue anymore, you just have to deal with people blowing whistles on lured cogs. But hopefully, the people learn.
Even though I am ok with a few Cold Callers to make it more exciting, I know that other people ar not. So I plan on the elevator dance. What I usually do is look at everyone's laff points that are Level 1. If they have 70 or less laff points, I look at their gags. (Not to see how good they are, but to remove the "Cold Caller Level 1" from under their name.) Now when I get on the elevator, I see how many people have shortened names to see how bad the dance will be. In general now, it takes me about 15 minutes to find a group on the elevator. I haven't lost since my first three times in the place. I hope that they release new toontasks for this area so the monotany wears off some. Quath |

We had it this morning... But for some reason two of the !@#$%ers jumped off, and I alt f4-ed before the doors closed. Luckily, I still had my pieces. People just do that for fun sometimes...

<<Hmm, unless we are programmers we CAN'T have all 7 gag tracks. How do we get to level 13 Mr. Hollywood if we aren't allow on the elevator my elitest? I haven't really seen any 120 lp people so la dee da on that one.>>
It's called hyperbole. Its meant to show that no one can be perfect in all situations by juxtaposing the incongruous impossibilities and limitations of the characters to the expectations of desirable compatriots in the VP battle. In otherwords, it was sarcasm, and not to be taken literally. |

As I play, I find that more and more of the stubborn toons who insist that they are right (when they are wrong) are in 50's and 60's (and 40's and 70's some times). That's because they're starting to get good and think they've learned all there is, so they insist on doing everything their way (which more often than not will get them killed if they bite off more they can chew, e.g. VP or a tall DL building). In any case, there are good and bad low laffers. There are good and bad L1 cold callers. One thing about a high laffer who is not an L1 cold caller is that they must have been good enough to survive the fight one or more times. If you know absolutely nothing about a toon, how would you base your decisions? Don't employers employ people with previous job experience? Don't schools admit students with high grades? Let's face it, scores and previous experience are everywhere we look in life -- they're a way to manage risk. A good way to get around that is to have a friend "sponsor" you for your first job, write you a good letter for a school, or help you get into the VP. Then you stop being an L1 cold caller and get your "union card." You now can show people definitively that you can and have done this. Sauce |

For the record, I had asked specifically if I could help them. One of my phrases is, "Can I help you?" In that context, it's obvious what it means. Everyone there had said yes.
When the 59er (who was a level 2 cold caller) asked, "would you like some help" the answer was no, "I think this is to risky for you." It was pretty obvious what was going on. I think one way to end this problem would be like what happens on elevators in bldgs. As soon as 8 people get on, the doors close and you can't get off. That won't stop people from alt-f4ing, but it would stop a lot of the problems I think.

When we got to the silos I left the factory in protest. I hoped that the other two high laffers would do the same, but they seemed to selfish and focused on the 4 minutes they spent to worry about the 15 laffer -- who clearly knew what she was doing -- who will be forcing herself upon some unsuspecting VP going group.
