Go figure!

So last night I was on Test with nobunny but me and Keyser Soze and Grandpa, and Keyser decided we should go to Open and take on the VP since we were four maxed toons ready for promotion. This was my first attempt at the VP, and nobunny hadn't actually gotten through to the VP fight itself on her only two previous attempts... so two of us were newbies when it came to the VP, but we were excited to try it.

So... we all move to Open. We spend a bit of time passing secrets around so that all four of us can communicate. We try to find other friends, but all of them are either already involved in a VP battle or had just come out of one and needed cog suit pieces.

So we move to Toon Valley. This is naturally a mistake, since there are low-laff toons trying to get on the elevator with us. But one of my non-secret friends, Barney Googlecorn, shows up, ready to take on the VP. We can't talk to him but he recognizes that we're a group of 100+ laff toons (like himself) and hangs out with us waiting for us to get our act together to take on the VP.

We wander around. We wait for another group of toons to join us... only there's four of them and five of us, so I'm not sure how that's going to work. Whatever, they vanish and don't come back, so for whatever reason they couldn't group with us.

For a long while nobunny aka Star Spangled Bunny and Keyser aka Deputy Moe aka Master Bumblecrump (at the moment he is Master B) try desperately to pass a secret to Barney. I think Grandpa got pretty bored, hehe. Both Moe and Star are pretty obstinate about this sort of thing, which is good for me because otherwise I wouldn't be Moe's friend or know about this web site. But for whatever reason Barney doesn't clue in on what they're trying to do.

In the meantime another friend of Master B's or Grandpa's shows up, and then Vivian (a sf friend of mine and Moe's) gets ready for promotion and shows up. That gives us seven 100+ laff toons, so we move to a more secretive district and go for it.

The first waves of cogs were no problem. I was secret friends with everyone but Barney and the other toon who's name I forget... but he was secret friends with others so almost all of us were communicating and on the same page. We polished off the skelecogs no problem... which impressed Star since her husband has apparently died at that stage several times, but all it takes is big gags and intelligent combat coordination, which we had in spades.

Then came the VP fight. Star lost connection right away... this was the farthest she'd been so far though. I mis-timed all of my jumps and kept getting slammed, plus I was too close to the VP and was getting pounded with gears. Vivian tried to get me to pull back and toon up, but while trying to do that I missed another jump and went sad. Barney got knocked out soon after... anyway I dind't talk to anyone but Star and Vivian about how the encounter went, but we got wiped out. Vivian said she was 2nd to last to go.

So anyway, that was my first VP experience... took nearly 2 hours to get everything together and then with 7 maxed 100+ laff toons, six of them secret friends with most of the others so we can communicate well... and we got waxed.

Tonight I ran through the factory and got my toon ready to take on the VP again. Then with Stumpy's help I finished my last actual task for Little Daphne Crunchyfish... the task that lets me carry 80 gags. Woooo! I'm free!

A little bit later Stumpy asked me to join him for a VP fight. I teleported to him. I made the mistake of using a cog phrase in a whisper to Loosy Goosy, who then wanted me to teleport to him to help him in a VP fight. I didn't know how to explain that I was waiting for Stumpy to set up a fight... but in the end, I followed Stumpy to a new location and there was Loosy Goosy, part of our same group.

Grandpa was here too, the only secret friend of mine in the group. Eight of us went in. I wasn't really expecting to do much better than the last time, but whatever.

We lost one person during the first round of cog battles... not sure who, as I didn't even know most of the people I was with. But again, I was with a lot of powerful, experienced toons, and the cog waves and skelecog waves were a snap.

Then came the VP battle. This time I hung back and launched pies at the VP from as far away as seemed practical. I also watched very carefully for his jumps... I only missed one, and was never hit by gears, so by the end of the fight I was at nearly full laff points.

And... we won the fight. Only my 2nd attempt.

I just thought it was funny that one night we spent 2 hours getting things together and trying to make sure everyone was a secret friend... but we lost... and the next time I'm called in and within ten minutes I'm in a VP fight with one sf and 6 non-sf toons, but it didn't really matter. Go figure. As long as you're playing with talented toons, it's not really so hard as all that.

I can't take too much credit for the victory... I was with toons that have won multiple times now. Loosey was already at Glad Handler stage, and others were past the Cold Caller stage. But I feel like I was a lot more useful the second time around, being able to time my jumps correctly and spend a lot of time pounding that darn VP!

- the funny thing is, i just went to Toon Valley cos pplz were there.. & there was Loosy & all these other 100+ laffers!
I'm not friends with Loosy, but i'm a fan of the cog chat!

- we lost "Chatty" 1st,.. she's old skool, sf, & maxxed, but she lags out every time she tries. I really feel for her
