Question about merits and invasions

I actually have two questions: First, I was on a factory, and when an invasion came up, everyone wanted to delay a while because "I need more merits". What do merits have to do with invasions?

Secondly, on the CCG website, one of the choices for "results other than danced" is "F4'd to save merits". I've died in VPs before, and kept all my merits. Do you lose merits by dying when your suit gets bigger?

I can only awnser number 1 if theres an invasion when u defeat the foreman u get more merits.

When you are in a Factory, Mint, or DA, or any time when you fight cogs and there is an invasion when you are dancing, your merits/bucks/notices are doubled.

So if there is an invasion when you just beat the Factory Foreman, instead of getting 388 merits, you get 776. In mints, you would get like 1200-1500 or so.

People who Alt-F4 at the end of a boss battle are doing it so they can fight that boss again without having to earn merits or because they don't want the SOS card. You don't lose merits from going sad in battle.
