I also think that racing for the first two rows of trophies have nothing in common with the last row. You cannot earn one of the first twenty trophies during a Grand Prix tournament.
Do this for a test if you want: Create a new Toon, get a Kart, earn tickets on practise courses until you have 500 tickets and start a Grand Prix race together with a friend who lets you win all three races. You will see, that you'll get the trophies No. 21, 24 and 27 right away. (1 Grand Prix tournament qualified, won and swept). Do one more race tomorrow (on tuesday) and you'll get a trophy on the first row, if you'll win this race, there is another one on the 2nd row.
I don't see anything wrong with this. Grand Prix racing just doesn't count for the trophies of toon battle races.
The reply you received from the support is a standard reply mail they send out to everyone who is reporting something, without really checking if it is right or not.
