When that happens, the only way to get out of the gray that I'm aware of is to run back to the beginning of the maze to start the timer. When the time elapsed, you'd have been released from the gray. I'm guessing that the timer wasn't triggered at all since you mentioned you all had glitched that particular maze.
Unfortunately, I'm not sure everyone is aware of having to trigger the maze timer if he/she is stuck in the gray as you were. I was in a Back 9 once and the same thing happened to one of the toons I was with and he or she was ready to teleport out. At least one toon I believe was sf's with that toon, but it became apparent that none of the others knew about the maze timer. I'd seen it happen before so I was able to speedchat 'wait a minute' or something like that and ran back to trigger the timer. She was fine after the time elapsed and finished the course with the rest of us.
