It's certainly not easy being a mod. There's tons of new stuff you need to learn and most of this is based on how to react to users that violate our policies. It's a fine line between being too harsh and being too light on users. I've been modding for years and I still learn new things almost daily. Because of this, we do prefer to seek out adults and older teens to be mods. We have made a few exceptions to this policy for some outstanding users.

To cut to the chase: all those comments about having good grammer, being helpful on the forums, etc. doesn't mean a lot if we can't feel that you'd be a fair and just moderator. It's hard not to put personal feelings behind some actions, but we have to do our best to be impartial and unbiased every time. Every action we take affects real people's lives and must be thought over carefully.

Sending myself or another admin an application PM might get us to notice you: We may not always have a position we need filled on the mod staff or we may not be able to tell what kind of person you are by your postings to make sure we are picking the right person for the position. We take a lot of time to evaluate every user until we feel they might or might not be a good moderator. It's really a gamble that we take quite seriously. We'd much rather have made the right choice and not have to fire someone as moderator after just a few weeks.
