It doesn't exactly happen that way. It's hard to explain how it works, but lemme take a whack at it. Bear with me.

Say you run into a cash bldg during an invasion. The invasion is Ambulance Chasers. You will get double gag experience on all the Ambulance Chasers during the invasion, and the remaining ones that come after it ends. Even though your gags wont show the double points on the selection screen you will still get double points on any Ambulance Chasers that come out after the invasion ends.

In a building, Toontown counts the bonus on the cogs, not necessarily the invasion. Think of the cogs as "invasion cogs" and "non-invasion cogs". If after an invasion ends the elevator opens and more Ambulance Chasers come out, you can feel confident you will continue to get double points on those remaining Ambulance Chasers, even if your gag selection shows otherwise. But once you get to the next floor and standard cogs come out, you will lose the double xp points, even if the gag selection screen shows otherwise.

For example: You are fighting the Ambulance chasers and the invasion ends. More Ambulance chasers come out. You finish them (and get double exp points that wont show till you dance) and get onto the elevator. On the next floor is a Loan Shark a Number Cruncher and a Tightwad. As you approach them a Bloodsucker invasion starts. Your gag selection shows that any gag you throw at them will be double points, but that is infact not true. These cogs are "standard cogs" that came before the invasion started and therefore you will not get any double points on that floor. You will only get double points on Bloodsuckers, and will continue to get double points on any Bloodsucker that remains standing even after the invasion ends, this includes the final floor.

I hope I'm making sense. It's complicated to explain, but once you understand it doing bldgs is much easier.

I never knew about this until a couple months ago. Up until then I thought your points were awarded as the gag-selection screen shows. But we started noticing that we were being cheated points so we did some testing and found the above info I just explained to be 100% accurate in buildings (only buildings, not the streets). Believe me when I say that I have tested and re-tested and re-tested this.

Edited to say that: HAHA I just typed all that complicated stuff up and the previous poster said the same thing so much easier. LOL Don't mind me.
