What brand/model of video card do you have?
My laptop runs TT just fine, but my desktop, which is an 800MHz Athlon system with a pretty good Matrox Mystique AGP video card, runs it really badly. I can play lots of 3D games no problem, but TT is very herky-jerky. The very newest video drivers actually crash my computer 10 seconds into the game, whereas the Microsoft staple ones just run horribly (to the point that I can't fish or do any of the trolley games like tug-o-war).
You could see if your manufacturer makes DX7 or OpenGL drivers, then run the game under that mode (there are shortcuts or you can make a shortcut yourself with the proper options...I have the switches and what they do on my work machine somewhere if you need). Alternately, you could try a different video card or work with tech support.
Good luck with the problem. Or, you know, with kicking your SO off of their computer and using that.
